Peter "Mean Pete" Kowalsky's donated corneas help international patients regain eyesight

Last July we all received the heartbreaking news that Peter "Mean Pete" Kowalsky of Until The End, Remembering Never, xBishopx, and more recently Ether Coven and Heathen Prayer had passed away after a battle with stage 4 colon cancer which was diagnosed in early 2020.

Today, however, we learned some good news from Pete's sister Desiree. 

For those who knew Pete it should come as no surprise to learn he was an organ donor, and even though he battled cancer and had gone through multiple treatments, doctors were still able to use some of Pete's organs to help others.

The Kowalsky family found out via the Lions World Vision Institute recently that both of Pete's corneas were used in operations to help others regain their eyesight. The left cornea was implanted into a patient in Taiwan and the right was used in a procedure in Saudi Arabia. 

Remembering Never shared the following post regarding the news:

It is an honor to share the incredible news from Pete's sister. Peter's cornea donation resulted in two successful international transplants. His left cornea restored sight to someone in Taiwan, and his right to someone in Saudi Arabia. Even after life Peter is changing lives…. Proud to call you My Dude!!!!

The message read:

Dear Desiree, 

Thank you for reaching out. I received your voicemail and wanted to follow up via email so that you would have Peter's donation outcome and information in writing. 

On behalf of Lions World Vision Institute, please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your brother, Peter. Whether donation was a decision Peter made in advance, or a choice you made that very day, it is my hope that receiving this email affirms our respect and admiration for your compassion and his generosity. 

It is an honor to share with you that Peter's cornea donation resulted in two successful international corneal transplants for two different recipients: his left cornea restored sight to someone in the country of Taiwan, and his right to someone in Saudi Arabia! Although I do not have more details regarding his recipients' genders or ages, please know that they both have now regained their quality of life, independence, and ability to see the beauty in the world around them, all because of Peter's selfless gift of sight.
