Year Of The Knife's Madi Watkins is starting to be responsive
The latest update given by guitarist Brandon Watkins, Madi's Husband and bandmate, yesterday (07/07) may be the most positive news from the band's accident that occurred only 9 days ago. In the short update, which you can read below, Brandon informs that Madi has started to be responsive in "little ways."
Brandon's update read:
Not much to update today things are pretty much the same. Madi will respond to our voices in little ways like moving her hand or blinking a little extra when we're talking to her. It's hard for me to be patient but I know it's all baby steps. I just miss her dearly.

Year Of The Knife's GoFundMe is still set up and active. As Madi's road to recovery is scheduled to be a long one that involves many surgeries, some of which she has already begun to undergo, and one would expect a lengthy go rehabilitation once she is able to fully start recovering.
Though Madi, unfortunately, took the most severe injuries. Most everyone in the band was also injured during the accident involving a tractor-trailer while driving through Utah. Brandon himself luckily only suffered a concussion and was released fairly quickly, while brother Andy (drums) and Aaron (guitar) Kisielewski both suffered broken bones and more.
Andy broke both ankles but was released from the hospital, not a great injury for a drummer. His brother Aaron faired a bit worse, breaking a femur (which is one of if not the most painful bone to break) along with a lacerated carotid right artery. There hasn't been an update regarding if Aaron has been released from the hospital, so it would be safe to say he is still there recovering.

UPDATE: Additionally, it looks like The Acacia Strain is doing a bit of fundraising for YOTK as well, with the band creating a tee-shirt for their friends in Year Of The Knife, with all proceeds going to support the effort. The shirt reads "The Acacia Strain" on the front with "Year Of The Knife Forever" emblazoned on the back.

I think YOTK are average. Politically, they are outspoken and I largely disagree with them. Seems like their van was responsible for hitting the truck. All that said: so what? Having worked in the insurance industry, there is no doubt their lawyer and/or their insurance company's lawyer(s) told the band members (and family) NOT to discuss any details of the crash as it can be used against them in the legal battle between insurance companies, as well as any outside litigation if the truck driver sues the band.

To the moron referencing "free healthcare" - get some actual real-world experience living in such a country before speaking out of your ass. There is no such thing as "free healthcare." Start with that. There are only 2 types of countries offering what you think is "free healthcare." The Canada/UK version, which you pay way higher taxes than in the USA - and it's slow and low quality (if you get approved at all). And these kinds of medical situations would not be fully covered anyway. And the Japan version, where you are required to pay a monthly fee for your insurance (sliding scale based on your income, anywhere from $100 - $300 a month), and then you are on the hook for 30% of the bill. And guess what, there are amount limits, services not included, etc. So again, this sort of accident, they aren't covering you for months in the hospital, medically induced comas, multiple surgeries. You would still be on the hook for a huge sum.
I don't want my taxes raised to pay for other people's health care. Especially, if I would be receiving the same level of care of people I look down on. But I don't want to pay more for goods and services so that people can afford private insurance. Remember, I look down on those people. But I don't want more regulation to control the cost of care. You can't trust government oversight. But I don't want less regulation because there's a deep pharma conspiracy to control our minds. You can't trust rich people. But, in the absence of any legitimate fixes at scale, I don't want people I don't like to successfully raise money online to help defray costs. Of course there's free health care in a lot of countries. In a third world country like Brazil, if you get into a car crash they'll take you to the hospital, patch you up, do surgeries and stuff and you'll get discharged when you're ready and it will cost you $0. I had relatives in the hospital for a month and a half and the bill was $0. Not everything is smooth, but it's real and a lot of people benefits from it. The situation in the US it's just pathetic.

Health insurance in America is great if you're fully insured and as long as your insurance company willingly covers the cost. In many cases they won't cover necessary testing/treatment, especially when needed (i.e. PT/OT/Speech rehab post stroke/cardiac catastrophe). It's always about money/profit. For companies and the shareholders denying coverage or dropping you is cost effective. It's also better for other insurance carriers and keeps monthly premiums reduced at a lower cost. The system is broken. A universal healthcare system is the solution.
