The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has issued a new "Gold & Platinum report," which highlights 40 digital singles and albums that have newly been certified Gold or Platinum.
Historically, a Gold record was one that achieved 500,000 copies sold. However, to accommodate the growing prominence of online streaming, the RIAA recently recalibrated their certifications to equate 1,500 on-demand audio streams with one album sale. As such, the latest report includes a number of artists who have achieved their first Gold records via the RIAA's changes. Among the new Gold certifications are:
- A Day To Remember - Homesick
- A Day To Remember - What Separates Me From You
- Halestorm - Halestorm
- Halestorm - The Stranger Case Of...
- Hawthorne Heights - If Only You Were Lonely
- Volbeat - Beyond Hell, Above Heaven
The previous certification list also included Lamb of God's 2004 album, Ashes of the Wake, which was formally certified Gold on February 18.
