I have been feeling rather alienated from what I have believed to be the current trend of hardcore- bands exactly like Suburban Scum, Heavy Chains and Incendiary. I have wondered if it has been me grower older that has made me feel out of tune with current hardcore. I have seen this tough guy fight it out attitude perpetuated by these bands and other popular hardcore bands as of late. These are not and have not been feelings I can relate to or agree with for years now.
It has been incredibly encouraging me to see the response to this incident. Its very sad to me that it had to come to this however to get people to finally turn their backs on these bands and this attitude. I cant say I am surprised in the least that this happened. In conversations with people it seemed to me that this tough guy attitude was well respected and emulated. I enjoy hardcore as a release and a way to have fun and understand violence's role in aggressive music.
However this can only go to a point a point that it exceeded now for sometime. It is great to see the reaction to this incident here but there have been others such as the anchors up incident. I had not even heard that anything like that happened until anchors up was closing and was enlightened as to the reason why. These acts of extreme violence should never happen within this community. This is how middle schoolers work out their problems not adults.

The hardcore scene is not falling apart, the scene is coming together to support a kid that most of them don't even know. Benefit shows are being put together for this kid all over the country, the music is the solution not the problem. If you don't see that you're just as blind as the jerks that beat him up in the first place.
