study: listening to metal music makes you calmer

A new study conducted by The University of Queensland, one of Australia's "leading research and teaching institutions," found that extreme music, such as heavy metal, can have a calming influence on those experiencing anger.

The results contrast previous studies, the results of which many would assume, that loud and chaotic music contributes to aggression.

UQ Scool of Psychology honors student Leah Sharman explained the new findings:


The study was published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience and was composed of 39 "regular" listeners of extreme music, aged 18-34 years.

So, earlier this month we learned that heavy metal listeners were less likely to cheat than fans of other genres, and now new research indicates that listening to extreme music can reduce one's anger and stress levels! Who'd a thunk it?
