For Today frontman tired of drama and pissed at Lambgoat, others
In an extensive new interview with Alternative Press, For Today frontman Mattie Montgomery recalled the firestorm ignited a year ago by ex-guitarist Mike Reynolds' "homosexuality is a sin" comments. He also had some harsh words for various websites, condemning them for portraying his band in a negative light just to get more "hits."
Commenting on Reynolds, and the animus between some Christians and homosexuals, Montgomery had the following to say:
"The fact that there are people who call themselves Christians but go on the news and picket soldiers' funerals and say stuff like "God Hates Fags?" These people totally dishonor God, and disrespect God and they dishonor and disrespect people who are made in God's image.
"There is a bitterness and a polarization that has come and a lot of wounds and defensiveness have developed in the homosexual community toward Christians. That has made them very sensitive toward Christians in general, especially when talking about the issue of homosexuality. I hate it...
"...So yes, it was a frustrating thing, and it was a difficult situation for me to go through because I really do love gay people. I have a whole bunch of people I've been friends with for years who are gay men and women. We have all been forced into this new religious/political paradigm where Christians are pitted against homosexuals in this stupid struggle for political dominance. It's really a political issue. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter."
Montgomery also assailed various media outlets, including Lambgoat, accusing them of throwing his "band under the bus" and putting For Today members' "families' well-being in jeopardy" just for web traffic:
And when asked where he stood on gay marriage, Montgomery was uncharacteristically non-committal:

It's one thing for you to say you "love" gay people, but in reality his interpretation of the bible and his particular faith makes it so that he hates the sin, loves the sinner. That is such a cop out though, why not take your actual stance and tell everyone that according to the bible you don't think gay people should be allowed to be married and that what they do goes against your particular god's will?

He doesn't pssyfoot around it. I love how people only ever read what they want to hear out of it, including the person who posted this article. Nothing wrong with hating the sin and loving the sinner, because according to the Bible, everyone sins. It gets me how people get so pissed off when someone says they think homosexuality is a sin, when you don't use your brain and take into account what else is considered sin, in the book.
I don't see anyone saying things like, "He thinks being drunk is a sin, he hates drunks!" or even "He thinks lust is a sin, so he hates literally just about every guy!" or "He thinks sexual immorality is a sin, so he hates everyone who has fun before marriage!" or even, "He hates sin, which inherently, according to the Bible, everyone sins, so he hates himself and everyone else!" Such poor logic in that.

Not a cop out. He did take his stance. If you seriously find it a revelation that Christianity thinks Homosexuality, along with literally a long list of other things are sins, then you've clearly been hiding in a hole since the times of Jesus. The Bible never actually says much about marriage specifically, it only speaks on it being wrong in the actual sexual sense.
On the actual sense of homosexuality as the act of within itself. That's why he doesn't say they shouldn't be allowed to, because it is not his say, and it shouldn't be the governments. Yes, he does say it is God's say, but he knows not everyone believes in God and won't listen to God as is. That's the reasoning for that.
Regardless of the Glamboat roast, he's right. Its a wedge issue being used by politicians to pit people against each other. And government should NOT be in the marriage business at all. Gay or not. Who the fuuck cares.

These guys played my venue a few years ago. Easily the most entitled, uncooperative rockstars I've ever dealt with, and Mattie was the worst. Oddly, Mike Reynolds was the only guy from the whole band who was respectful and friendly. Was a little surprised when he turned out to be the most bigoted.

It's illogical to think that just because Christian's disagree with a non-Christian's worldview, that that means they're bigots and hateful people. It is possible to be gay and be a Christian, but it's not condoned by the Bible. Christianity says that all of humanity has "sinned and fallen short of the glory of God"(Romans 3:22), "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us"(Romans 5:8).
Christianity does not demand us to be perfect, but it asks us and compels us to give up our pride, the idea that says, "whatever I want to do with my life is best" for the sake of letting a Savior who died for us be Lord of our life. It makes sense, if I'm a broken sinner, I will make a terrible ruler of my life. But if Jesus Christ is who he said he was, the Son of God, then he will ultimately know what's best for my life.
If I'm broken and messed up and in need of saving, and Jesus is who he said he was, then submitting to him with every area of life(money, career, lifestyle, hobbies, sexuality) is better than submitting to myself. It's not submitting to a benevolent dictator, it's submitting to a loving Savior that died for his enemies. Thanks for spreading the love, Mattie. Bravo.

It's a shame that some of you militant Christians would charge your own for having a view other than yours. It really astound me that you can be so ignorant. If I can publicly express how I hate everything Christianity stands for, then why is it so wrong that they would say noway to gay marriage? Its OBVIOUS that they wouldn't be in support of it.
