In This Moment singer Maria Brink attempts to redefine the word "whore"
Brink has never been shy about using her body for attention, frequently donning provocative clothing for photo shoots. However, she apparently wants to turn the tables on those who question her motives. In fact, she is now attempting to rebrand the word "whore," having created the term Women Honoring One another Rising Eternally. And as you can see below, Brink has made some sort of statement via the single's artwork.
Brink explains, "I decided to pose nude for the visual art for 'Whore' to evoke a raw vulnerable emotion. The word WHORE written down my back, and the dunce cap symbolize me placing myself on the stake for those who are suffering and I can only hope to encourage at least one person to find the self worth and love they deserve to transcend out of a painful situation into a beautiful one. It is about finding our power and taking a stand. We are resilient beings and need to realize our incredible strengths. I will not bow down to others perceptions of me; I will only rise in the name of art, love and music... I am so proud and excited for the world to hear Whore! This is an honest and raw movement that needs to be heard! The message behind this song is taking back control. It is about taking the power from a disgusting and degrading word and turning it back around on the accuser. It's about self empowerment, love, and liberation."
Perhaps I'm being cynical, but Brink seems to be walking a fine line here - blatantly using sex to sell music, but at the same time claiming that she's doing it for the betterment of women. Does that fly? I don't know. I'm not sure if she's a hero or a hypocrite.

Post CommentI don't understand why a woman being naked has to directly translate to "sex". Shes not being sexy, shes not using fun to sell records. Shes created a piece of art out of her body to convey a message. People (you lambgoat) who immediately relate this to using her naked body as a "sex sells" gimmick are the exact people/mindframe she is lashing out against. It's ok to be naked people.
