Narcissus, a religiously centered metalcore outfit, was formed in July of 1998 in Elyria, Ohio. The band initially appeared on a Unified Records label compilation that same year before releasing an EP on Clenched Fist Records in 1999. The band was able to sell of 100 copies of the EP in its first week of release and eventually attracted the interest of Takehold Records. The band's first full-length was released on Takehold during the summer of 2000, followed by a second record for Takehold, entitled "Becoming Leviathon". The band's older material is an excellent example of metalcore/screamo, while their recent material has taken on a progressive (a la Tool) dimension.
