Fredrik Åkesson, guitarist of Opeth, has shared some exciting updates about his solo album during a recent interview with GuitarGuitar. Despite his busy schedule with Opeth, Åkesson is making solid progress on the project. He revealed that two tracks are already mixed and mastered, while a third is waiting on vocals from a good friend. Though he's juggling Opeth's commitments and his past work with Ghost, Åkesson is determined to finish the album, needing just six more songs to complete it.
A noteworthy detail is that Saxon's legendary frontman, Biff Byford, will contribute vocals to one of the tracks. Åkesson, who worked with Byford on his solo album, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, teasing that Byford might humorously disapprove of the announcement. With a batch of ideas already in place, Åkesson is optimistic about the project's future and plans to write the remaining material as soon as Opeth's schedule permits.
