New Found Glory's Chad Gilbert offers update on new album amid cancer treatment

Chad Gilbert, lead guitarist for easycore pioneers New Found Glory, recently offered an update on the band's next album while undergoing chemotherapy.

In February, New Found Glory announced on social media that they were in the midst of pre-production on what would be their 13th studio album. As the month drew to a close, Gilbert himself went on Instagram to offer some insight as to where things stood – and he did this in the middle of a chemotherapy session. The former Shai Hulud vocalist has had multiple bouts with cancer over the past several years.

Here's some of what Gilbert had to say:

What's up, everybody? It's Chad here. Thanks for following along, last week, with [drummer] Cyrus [Bolooki] and [bassist] Ian [Grushka] in town, working on new songs. So, we finished a bunch of demos and ideas-- song ideas. So, the next process is lyrics, melodies, things like that. So, we got the riffs down. This is my chemo week. I'm here four days getting chemo, I'm all hooked up. So, I use this opportunity to write down lyric ideas, things like that. [Vocalist] Jordan [Pundik] sends me lyric ideas. And now, [I'm] kinda, like, listening to the demos that we wrote, and getting inspired… and melodies coming out based on the feelings that the guitar riffs and the music are giving. That process is, like-- has made our biggest songs in the past, which is kinda what we're going back to. So, I think that the feel you'll hear on the record, you know, might be reminiscent of some of the old things that maybe made you love New Found Glory in the beginning.

New Found Glory's 12th and most recent full-length effort, Make the Most of It, was an acoustic album that dealt heavily with Gilbert's cancer diagnosis. It released in January 2023 through Revelation Records. In an Instagram post dated February 20th, the band announced that their next album would feature 11 songs – including a new version of Make the Most of It's opening track, "Dream Born Again."

I'd like to start this talk off with a parable. A story, if you will. I was at a college. A second-tier... not an ivy league school, a second choice school... and I was in a class. And there was a student in that class, okay? And the teacher, he was spouting some horrible nonsense, it was something about how gender pronouns are valid - something that everybody knew was false. But if anybody had spoken up, he would've taken extreme joy in failing them. Okay? Nobody spoke up. One person raised his voice. One person started talking. The teacher couldn't believe it; the classroom couldn't believe it either. But in the end, he had logic on his side. And at the end of the day, he proved his point. That student was Ronnie Radke.

The vocals this man laid to tape as a teenager surpass 100% of any adult age vocal performances of his contemporaries. Cope.
