Scythelord release cover of Sodom's "The Crippler"

Scythelord

International thrash metal duo Scythelord kicked off 2025 by sharing a cover version of Sodom's "The Crippler" – marking their first official release since 2021.

Scythelord dropped their cover of "The Crippler" on Bandcamp in the final days of 2024, with the single finally hitting platforms like Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music just shy of two weeks into 2025. The track will also be featured on Scythelord's upcoming EP, Masters of the Scythe. Sodom's original version of "The Crippler" was featured on the German thrash metal outfit's 1992 album Tapping the Vein. You can listen to both versions of the song below.

For the uninitiated, Scythelord is an international metal band consisting of Swedish video game streamer Vargskelethor Joel, of Vinesauce fame, and his Floridian collaborator Frank Hernandez, who formerly played bass for Miami prog metal band Luxrem. Scythelord released their debut album, Toxic Minds, in 2016. Their second album, Earth Boiling Dystopia, followed in 2021. According to their Bandcamp page, their music "combines the sonic assault of traditional thrash metal with the precision of modern production."

Interestingly enough, the two members of Scythelord were actually on hand to see Sodom perform live as part of a rare in-person meetup last year. In a YouTube video shared in December 2024, Joel chronicled his and Hernandez's trip to the Hell's Heroes VI festival in Houston the previous March. He captured a number of humorous moments from the event, including footage of someone crowdsurfing in a trashcan during Demolition Hammer's set.
