Mastodon's Brann Dailor sheds light on the band's follow up to 2021's 'Hushed And Grim'

In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Mastodon drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor shared details about the follow-up to 2021's Hushed And Grim.

The new record will once again delve into a conceptual theme, with Dailor revealing that he's been crafting a "supernatural horror" story to serve as its foundation. Known for their intricate and emotionally charged narratives, Mastodon has previously explored topics like astral projection, personal loss, and existential struggles in their music.

Dailor shared the following:

[The songs are] all over the place. I hear some punk rock in there, but then I hear some insane prog and I hear the heaviest version of ourselves poking its head out again.

You can talk all day about what you want to do, but at the end of the day it governs itself – it pulls you where your heart is.

Last album was a slog. Obvious move to go heavier.

Hushed and Grim was a letdown. They need to channel the energy from Crack the Skye and write a sequel to that record.
