The song, produced and written by Bad Omens' frontman Noah Sebastian, gives a first look at the band's upcoming album, the Concrete Forever project, an experimental extension of their album The Death of Peace of Mind

"V.A.N." features Poppy on vocals, and tells a tale of an artificial intelligence entity bent on destroying humanity, with a storyline inspired by sci-fi and Bad Omen's Concrete Jungle comic book universe. The videos takes additional visual inspiration from the video game Portal, the film Ex Machina, and Stranger Things. It was directed by Garrett Nicholson & Poppy.

Sebastian explained the creation of the single:

That's a song that started just with the hook 'Violence against nature', and then after saving the project with the acronym and seeing it we realized it could be fun to think of 'VAN' as a name. Thus the rabbit hole of ideas began that led us to decide to write lyrics from the perspective of an artificial intelligence gone rogue.
