Polaris are gearing up to release their new album, Fatalism, on September 1 via Resist Records in Australia and SharpTone Records worldwide. One of the tracks from the album, titled "Nightmare," now has a music video that captures its dystopian themes. The video is dedicated to the memory of the band's late guitarist, Ryan Siew, who was involved in its creation.

The genesis of "Nightmare" can be traced back to a writing session in the Blue Mountains in 2022. Drummer and lyricist Daniel Furnari describes the song as a reflection of the constant fear that has gripped the world in recent times. He believes that this fear has become a unifying factor during a period marked by division. The song carries significant weight for the band, as it was one of the last projects Siew worked on before his passing.

The upcoming album, Fatalism, explores themes of despair and dystopia, reflecting the sense of powerlessness many have experienced in the face of recent events. Polaris has established themselves in the Australian heavy music scene through their previous albums, The Death Of Me and The Mortal Coil.

Fans can expect Fatalism to delve into the collective fears that have shaped our world, with "Nightmare" serving as an introduction to the album's thematic direction. Polaris's musical vision will take listeners on an emotive journey when the album drops on September 1.

Funari says:

"'Nightmare' is a reflection on the constant state of fear that the world at large seems to have lived in for much of the past couple of years — the feeling of waking up every day into a dystopia of uncertainty and anxiety where nothing really feels safe anymore," shares Furnari. "The more I thought about it, the more I arrived at the conclusion that maybe this fear was the biggest thing we all had in common during a time of such great division — that our collective dread was our greatest unifier. That concept then really helped to shape the thematic direction of the rest of the record.

"This was the second song that was written for the album and it started with that chorus melody, chords and lyrics, which I brought to the guys to build a song around. We fleshed it out on our first writing trip to the mountains and it developed into a very riff-heavy song, with the guitar being passed back and forth a lot between Rick and Ryan and all of us weighing in, so I think we all had an early attachment to it for that reason."
