Trivium's Matt Heafy catches crowd surfer mid-set

Heafy Stagedive

Trivium vocalist and guitarist Matt Heafy recently took proactive measures during the band's set at The Factory in Deep Ellumin in Dallas, Texas recently to prevent injury to a crowd surfing fan due to a lapse in security placement. After seeing someone about to crowd surf over the railing and onto the floor, Heafy left the stage to help catch the falling fan.

Footage of the incident and Heafy's commentary have been shared, with many praising his quick thinking and willingness to help out. However, the incident highlights the importance of venue security and ensuring that those tasked with keeping crowds under control are up to the task, as a recent security incident at The Ridglea theater, also in the Dallas / Fort Worth area, reportedly left fans falling to the floor during the set. Subsequently, many bands canceled shows due to further issues with security, and the club may have banned hardcore altogether going forward.
