Stray From The Path's Craig Reynolds gives insight on Leeds O2 Academy merch cut

The debate surrounding merch cuts has been gaining momentum on a weekly basis. Stray From The Path's drummer Craig Reynolds, who also serves as the host of The Downbeat Podcast, recently contributed to the conversation by tweeting about the band's latest performance.
Currently on a tour supporting Beartooth and Motionless In White in the UK and Europe, the band performed at the O2 Academy in Leeds, UK last night. Reynolds took to Twitter to shed some light on the merch cut system at the venue.
According to Reynolds, the O2 Academy requires bands to use their in-house merch person to sell merchandise, and this comes with a 25% cut of the total amount earned. He went on to explain that after all the necessary cuts have been taken, the band is left with a profit that is sometimes lower than that of everyone else involved in the show.

Why has this become the subject of conversation recently, larger venues you have been doing this forever and it's not a surprise, they knew about the Merch situation in the contract.
Tradition is just peer pressure from old people
They could just set up preorders on their site specific to each tour date and have purchase ID's to hand out shirts and whatever else at the show. But I mean they play metalcore so their brains run on four loko and vape pens…
I've registered the domain onlymerch.com. Pre-order your favorite band's merch before each date and get a free dick pic courtesy of isanyoneup.com archives.

These guys are complaining about first world problems but they sing about how they're saviors to the poor and less fortunate. Clown behavior
"But I mean they play metalcore so their brains run on four loko and vape pens…" Jesus Christ, I cracked the fu<k up.

set up your merch out on the street lol. see how they like that.
top flight security of the world CRAIG. not just the city but of the world. PEOPLE NEED SECURITY IN THE WORLD CRAIG!
Serious question: Why see a band in person when they sound better on record? A band I like is playing my town - do I REALLY need to SEE THEM? I'd rather kick 'em $30 & buy their merchandise online. I'd even drop money to watch them live on pay per view.
Here's some insight to having more money - Don't spend $150 on a crewneck Palace sweatshirt
Has this not been the standard for big venues since the beginning of time? It's not like they're playing cafes or town halls where you can whack out a pasting table and prop your your Level Plane distro.
Can't believe these losers are sobbing about this. There are dozens of ways around this, figure it out idiots.
You are playing at 2000+ capacity venue and crying about having to pay a merch cut...all venues/festivals do this and the band contracted the show MONTHS before the tour. Countless hardcore bands are touring Europe and making it happen in a shitty van, this dude acts like they are going to end up on the street
Seems to me like they need to find someone to make their stuff for way cheaper.
More simps for nightclubs in comments. We get it - the profit on a tee is greater than what you make in an hour & you're pissed that just a handful of tee sales exceeds your daily pay - just say it.
Negotiate with a carrier for free shipping and use a unique number from the ticket to allow tour-only merch sales via your website.
There's always the option where you stop all together and then stay stopped forever.
Post on social media your merch guy will be out next to the bus when the show is over, sell the shit.
"Here's some insight to having more money - Don't spend $150 on a crewneck Palace sweatshirt" For real. You can't fix stupid.
White people should have to pay more than POC's for this bands march.
How much does the O2 employee pocket each night? That's ridiculous
Larger rooms always venue sell for a variety of reasons. They sure as hell won't have the band's merch guy do it because they will count in/out incorrectly and lie about how much merch was actually sold.
The simple solution is to socialize the music industry. Everyone shares!
IF you play a fest: you are not hardcore IF you live on merch sales : you are not hardcore IF you are Craig Reynolds: you are not hardcore IF you are not hardcore: you don't matter to me
Funny how these socialists are complaining about this venue taking a cut of their profits. Basically how socialism works, taking from the taxpayer for frivolous concepts. It's cool and fun when it's not your money.
This guy had to resort to wearing his sister's hand me down pink and baby blue sweater. He need all the merch money to buy man clothes.
Gay From The Ass f*cking blow donkey cocks. f*ck these homos.
