Mastodon album 'Hushed And Grim' debuts in Top 20

Mastodon's new album, Hushed and Grim, has debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard 200 chart after totaling roughly 20,000 in album equivalent units (18,000 in pure sales) during its first week of release in the United States.

Meanwhile, Hushed and Grim bowed at No. 3 on the Top Current Album Sales chart, No. 3 on the Top Album Sales chart, No. 2 on the Top Rock Albums chart, No. 1 on the Hard Rock Albums chart.

Although the new full-length ended the band's streak of three consecutive Top 10 debuts, it did mark Mastodon's fifth consecutive Top 20 showing. And while 20,000 in sales is nothing at which to sneeze, the total represents a significant decline in comparison to the group's previous album, 2017's Emperor of Sand, which sold 43,000 in its first week (and landed at No. 7 on the Billboard 200).

Going back further, Mastodon's 2014 album, Once More 'Round the Sun, sold 34,000 copies in its debut week, giving the band their highest Billboard 200 showing to date at No. 6.

Mastodon's first LP to debut in the Top 10, The Hunter, tallied 39,000 during its first week of release in 2011.
