It appears that Metallica has indeed completed the recording process for their next album and follow-up to 2008 effort, Death Magnetic. Mixing seemingly commenced this month with producer Greg Fidelman and a late-2016 release is expected.
The news comes via an interview conduced by a member of Metallica's staff for an article on the band's official website. Within the piece, which was posted on June 9, its auther stated this: "I managed to corner Lars and James at HQ before they locked themselves in the control room with Greg Fidelman to start mixing the new album."
While it's unclear when the interview actually took place, it's likely safe to say that mixing for the new album is underway.
