A series of terrorist attacks have taken place across Paris, France today. One of the shootings reportedly took place at Le Bataclan theater, where California rock band Eagles of Death Metal were scheduled to perform this evening. Allegedly, roughly 100 concertgoers are being held hostage while more than a dozen were slain. Members of the band are reportedly safe and have left the venue.
French President Francois Hollande has declared a state of emergency and Paris authorities are instructing citizens to stay home. Thus far, more than 60 people have reportedly died from the attacks.
Notably, Deftones were scheduled to kick off three consecutive shows at Le Bataclan tomorrow night. Obviously, those shows will not be happening. Deftones are in France now, but thankfully, are reportedly safe.
Obviously, this situation is developing.
UPDATE: According to a report from The New York Times, the hostage situation at the theater has ended:
A hostage situation at the Bataclan concert hall came to an end on Friday night when French police raided the building, according to French television, which reported "dozens of dead" at the theater.
Witnesses called it a "massacre" and a scene of "carnage," according to French television.
The police killed at least two of the hostage-takers, who threw grenades at the police as they advanced.
UPDATE #2: The Associated Press reports that a French police official says at least 100 people were killed inside Bataclan. The shooting spree is said to have lasted 10-15 minutes.
UPDATE #3: CNN reports that at least 112 were died at Bataclan. Meanwhile, the brother of Juilan Dorio, a drummer for the Eagles Of Death Metal, spoke with WSB-TV in Atlanta.
"He said they were playing, about six songs into the show, and they heard, before they saw anything, they heard automatic machine gunfire. And it was so loud, it was louder than the band, and they all hit the stage floor. And as they got up to try to evacuate they saw men with machine guns just shooting anything and everything in the venue."33 Comments
