Among the 170 people facing organized crime charges stemming from the deadly shootout amongst rival motorcylce gangs in Waco, Texas this past weekend is a veteran metal musician. Theron Rhoten, 35, booked and charged on Sunday, is a member of several Austin, Texas area bands, Sans Soleil, Communion, and The Roller. While not nationally known, the groups have opened for for a slew of bigger acts, including Russian Circles, YOB, Earth, Goatsnake, and Lecherous Gaze.
Interestingly, Rhoten's wife made national news this week when she proclaimed her husband's innocence to The Associated Press. Katie Rhoten told the AP that her husband ducked for cover amidst the shooting and was later arrested along with motorcycle enthusiast friends and other "nonviolent, noncriminal people."
"He's good to his family," she explained. "He doesn't drink; he doesn't do drugs; he doesn't party. He's just got a passion for motorcycles."
Rhoten said her husband, an Austin mechanic, called her from jail and said that he and other members of Vise Grip Club ran for cover as the violence erupted. The Vise Grip Club specialize in building and riding vintage and antique motorcycles according to spokesman Brian Buscemi.
Like all of the arrested bikers, Theron Rhoten is being held on a $1 million bond.38 comments

This is true for so many people. I'm related to someone who died in Waco. He was not a criminal by a long shot: never owned a gun, no criminal record, no history of drugs or violence. I've seen families of other victims saying the same. Apparently, 4 out the 9 who died had no criminal record, and one had a purple heart from Vietnam. 117 out of 170something who were arrested had no criminal history. I think a handful of bad apples got the rest killed or arrested, and it really sucks.

You're implying that because Theron rides with a motorcycle club, it should be assumed he is up to no good. the reality of the situation is that there are a ton of clubs that are not collectively a criminal element. Christion Brotherhood, Patriot Guard Riders, Organizations centered around veterans, etc...
Vise Grip MC are nothing more than a bunch of garage builders who specialize in vintage harley davidson choppers/bobbers. the meating wasn't a "showdown" between the bandidos, an cossacks. it was an annual meeting where riders get together from all clubs, and individually and talk about new laws, and legislation. there are even legislators there who ride, who take part in this meeting every year.
