Going to learn how to play this by ear. I used to could play it fairly decent with the lead sheet, but that was like close to 20 years ago. So far I have hit one right note and 742 wrong notes and that was just the first 4 bars.

i just recently read an article on "coltrane changes' on how he substituted chords. i gotta say i didn't really understand a word of it. he invented it

I like that million notes per minute stuff, but I gotta say I'm more of a Love Supreme kind of guy. More finesse

Here's a tip. Miles In The Sky. An often overlooked Miles Davis record that is absolutely killer

i like slow smoky jazz more. i don't want that saxamaphone blaring in my ear

Miles In The sky is the bridge between hard bop and fusion. Not quite completely out there, but getting there

"Coltrane changes (Coltrane Matrix or cycle, also known as chromatic third relations and multi-tonic changes) are a harmonic progression variation using substitute chords over common jazz chord progressions. David Demsey, saxophonist and coordinator of jazz studies at William Paterson University, cites a number of influences leading to Coltrane's development of these changes. After Coltrane's death it was proposed that his "preoccupation with... chromatic third-relations" was inspired by religion or spirituality, with three equal key areas having numerological significance representing a "magic triangle", or, "the trinity, God, or unity" that's not really the way i approach playing a guitar or instrument. he musta been some kind of crazy genius

Interesting. I have some really wild stuff from the guys from Iceburn in my book. They completely lost me at points.

I just posted like 2 or 3 hours total yesterday and this morning of me just messing around playing "jazz" Coltrane was a f*cking genius yes. Him and Joe Henderson are my two favorite saxophonist. Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson alway had good horn players in their bands. I remember reading about the holy trinity thing many years ago. If you want to play "fast" jazz guitar just play like a horn player, all that means is going up and down on the neck and not just position playing, I got hung up many years being really root heavy and playing mainly in the 5th-7th fret radius, and would just comp tritones when I would sit in

Now I'm learning to play up and down the neck, and when I get more comfortable I'm going to go to the local college here and find some people that want to play jazz, local university has always had a really good music program, being that we have Fame music studio here and muscle shoals sound, so a lot of local talent, not to many jazz bands here, maybe like the same three dudes throughout the years. I remember probably around 2006 or 07 I was noticing I was having more fun playing in my jazz band then my metal band lol

_steelpanda_ 1/30/2022 8:57:18 AM
You got any social media bull or email? I'll send my videos over, you'll have to fast forward through my breakdowns, like crying and shit lol, but these last two I don't think I do that?

BULLHEAD 1/30/2022 8:58:26 AM

I love the piano, I think in all seriousness that would probably be my best instrument I would learn. I can play pretty much all the basic chords, my sight reading is dog shit now, but I was getting really good at playing a minor blues on it and was able to keep a steady rhythm with both hands, but I play piano like a guitar player it's so f*cking weird lol. Drums I can blast beat and double bass for days, loveeeee drums. Jazz drumming is f*cking awesome and I'm lucky to keep time on the slowest of the 4/4, Tony Williams and Dave Weckel are my favorites. And however was in return to forever and weather report lol
