A Day to Remember is like a bag of schwag. It's a cheap buzz that will leave you with a pounding headache. And high school kids buy it in abundance. Mostly because they don't know any better, and they do what their dumb friends tell them to do. What Separates Me From You is not a hardcore or metal album. If it weren't for about three or four moments on this disc it wouldn't even warrant a review on this site. That said, the album opens with an explosion of distortion and feral growls before resolving into Brian Fair-esque shouted vox. The breakdown is straight outta the Acacia's Strains handbook, big and brutal, but then something weird happens. A syrupy chorus comes from out of nowhere, and I mean nowhere. It doesn't fit, and feels like they took a cue from St. Anger and just used Pro Tools to mash a verse with a chorus. The effect is like looking at Two-Face, pretty disgusting, and not in a good way. It's all downhill from there. ADTR bring to mind the glam bands of old. Sandwiched in between the misogynistic tales of drugs and derelicts there would be this sickeningly sweet ballad that made those badasses sound like pussies, killing whatever cred they had acquired. On What Separates Me From You, ADTR flip that script and slip in breakdowns between their Blink-182 selections. This changing of styles is often cited as versatility. I call it posing. They offer little in the realm of technicality, and while they do have a gift for songwriting, they come off as a puffed up version of The Backstreet Boys. And smiling like they shit their pants in press photos does little to change my mind. Aside from the opener, "Stick & Bricks" and the plodding "You Be Tails, I'll be Sonic" there is little to bang your head to. "2nd Sucks" is masked as metalcore, but is more like a rap-rock number, akin to a Hollywood Undead or Brokencyde B-side, neither of which is a positive comparison. This is ultimately a pop-punk record. And pop-punk has no place in metal. So why bother "breaking down" sing-songy tripe that bitches about their crappy town "All Signs Point To Lauderdale" and crappier relationships, "Better Off This Way"? The only way I'm letting you cry on my shoulder, dude, is if I'm wearing Legion of Doom spiked shoulder pads. Bottom Line: I can see why kids like this, but hopefully when they put away the Pampers they will latch on to another teat...or trend.

blink 182>>>>>>>

suburbandiscipline_ 1/5/2011 10:22:29 PM

so I guess you had to prove how much you hated it for street cred. just pull a 50 cent and get shot 9 times

danofthedead_ 1/5/2011 11:30:57 PM

This review made me curious. Listened to the previews on Amazon. This shit sucks.

anonymous 1/6/2011 12:39:15 AM

REVIEW IS PERFECT. f*ck this stupid band.

EwokFromEndor_ 1/6/2011 6:42:17 AM

Probably one of the worst bands/ albums I've ever heard. 4/10 seems generous.

Loyd Christmas_ 1/6/2011 8:21:07 AM

album is laughable. the breakdown in the middle of "2nd Sucks" is a to-the-tee rip off of some Throwdown part from Haymaker. Too lazy to look it up.

simon_belmonT_ 1/6/2011 8:58:15 AM

did this guy really use "outta" in a review?

Brett__ 1/6/2011 9:09:42 AM

No read, but already know that 4/10 is too high.

xheartfeltx_ 1/6/2011 10:41:14 AM

sweet Legion Of Doom reference.

Dan_ 1/6/2011 11:23:13 AM

Not a good album, at all. I have a very hard time taking it seriously. But if this reviewer is wearing "Legion of Doom spiked shoulder pads", then I have an even harder time granting him with any credibility whatsoever. It's clear you've been a misfit since day one, had no friends in high school, and you spend your time bashing people on independent websites such as this. Glad you still have your "Lambgoat-cred" my man, because you have just about nothing else.

xmusicislifex_ 1/6/2011 12:27:56 PM

seems like someone had a bad day and needed to vent their frustrations....shitty album/band but this is not hardcore/metal...review a REAL album instead of taking shots at a band because you don't like their genre

bitteroldman_ 1/6/2011 6:12:36 PM

its funny this totally mirrors the review done on their first full length done on here, but that got a 3/10...

joe_ 1/6/2011 6:39:02 PM

i think its extremely accurate and well put. and anyone thats saying "you only wrote this for cred" is off-base. should he have given it a good review if thats not really how he felt? he thought it sucked, so he wrote it sucked.

Dansuckscocks_ 1/6/2011 9:54:53 PM

That dan guy is clearly dating one of the members.

HBDad_ 1/7/2011 12:28:09 AM

Really liked their last album but really hate this one! The last one was a perfect blend of metalcore and pop-punk while this one is all pop-punk pretty much.

YouGotScanned_ 1/7/2011 1:20:21 AM

Legion of Doom f*cking rules.

TONY BRUMMEL_ 1/7/2011 1:31:02 PM

Coke goes in, c-m goes out into male employee's mouth.

anonymous 1/7/2011 3:15:01 PM

it is what it is, its catchy and fun. if they were posing like they were as innovative as Converge or deftones, that would be one thing. but for what it is it is awesome.

Jamey Remember_ 1/7/2011 8:41:40 PM

You f*cking shithead. You don't know the first thing about metalcore teen pop; we put a lot of time and effort into this CD, and it's one of the heaviest releases of the year. We better not catch you around at any shows, because if my crew sees you, you'll wish you never got out of bed that day. Oh, and to everyone who actually CARES about this record, listen up! Thanks to everybody who bought it already but for those who have not been able to find it, try TARGET, yes TARGET is stocking it for O

godless_ 1/7/2011 9:10:58 PM

this is not good music

thejosaf_ 1/7/2011 11:20:29 PM

"METALCORE TEEN POP"?!?! "HEAVIEST RELEASE OF THE YEAR"?!?! "MY CREW"?!?! HAHAHA shut up gay.

anonymous 1/8/2011 2:41:28 AM

opening rearogy was great..lost interest in the review after that.. some stuff is catchy, and theyre doing it because its "cool" right now..we all got bills to pay..

biggsonbass_ 1/8/2011 9:55:28 AM

I really don't think this review was warranted at all. I'm sure everyone who visits this site knew this album was going to be a shitfest. This band obviously panders to the altera-teen-girl crowd so who really gives a shit? Not I, legion of doom-reviewer, not I.

MH_ 1/8/2011 12:44:03 PM

whats the point in lambgoat reviewing this album? all of you jackoff to metal...so I guess this review is to please you?

mydadfucksme_ 1/9/2011 1:43:20 PM

posting on your own review... hard. i did it too. band use to be heavy. f*ckem

anonymous 1/10/2011 8:33:41 AM

"And smiling like they shit their pants in press photos does little to change my mind." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

King Dong_ 1/10/2011 11:20:39 AM

First off - this band is trash. Second, the reviewer made some good points. It was obvious that the review was going to be a shitstorm considering it's on lambgoat, but his points were valid. This is the same shit as Poison was in the 80's and boybands were in the 90's. It's heartless fluff, made to sell.

Shaggy 2 Dope_ 1/10/2011 11:25:02 PM

f*ckin' magnets, how do they work?

jake_ 1/14/2011 12:32:41 AM

lolf*ck. Can't believe the f*cking dimwit from the actual band responded. I'd be f*cking embarrassed even being a member of this shit girl band. The reviewer got it 100%. They're Backstreet Boys raging about being in the closet. Get a grip, ADTR. Albums need to get reviewed, and sometimes an album that gets reviewed sucks balls. A '4' was a blessing. If anything, you should be sucking the critic's balls. Enjoy your boy band.

anaturaldisaster_ 1/15/2011 12:43:02 PM

lol @ people still falling for that Best Buy/Tower Records gimmick.

kronske_ 1/16/2011 3:28:17 PM

It's so awesome that people still think the band replies with the Target/Tower deal

greg_ 1/16/2011 4:53:35 PM

well i think this album is great.so what if the sing about where they are from.that is the place that made them who they are.the break downs are awesome.they have toured with the best of em.so im sure they have plenty of support so negatives im pretty have no effect on the boys of a.d.t.r.

SM666_ 1/17/2011 10:49:58 AM

This is definetly one of the worst album in the "Hardcore" scene, even if it's not hardcore anymore, even Papa Roach could write some pop/screamo shit like this. Anyways, ADTR recorded this album for the piggie-bank, that's it.

anonymous 1/17/2011 2:07:05 PM

greg is obviously 13 years old. and who are these "best of em" that they've toured with? if it's not slayer, then they ain't the best, Fruit!

resident_ 1/18/2011 1:23:31 PM

real weak review. I'm sure the album sucks but this sounds like a 14 year old reviewing his ex girlfriend's favorite band's new album.

anonymous 1/19/2011 1:31:03 AM

very weak comment. Resident sounds like a homo.

devonation12_ 2/2/2011 9:39:23 AM

adtr is a very talented band so f*ck of dick brains you obviously dont know what a good band sounds like... dont get me wrong i like technicality but when it comes to somthing that gets me pssy like adtr the technicality is out of the question every girl that gets in my car and i play some what seperates me from you their legs are practicly already spread and its a very catchy album i love it and all of there other material so take a f*cking hot c-ck to alaska and back who ever wrote this sence

koobeeny_ 2/3/2011 7:42:00 PM

A Day To Remember have never pretended they were a "metal" band. You can hear it straight from their mouths that they're a pop-punk band with hardcore influences. The blink-182 comparison isn't a very good one, though, they have a LOT more in common with New Found Glory. I don't understand why metal reviewers think ADTR is somehow trying to "pollute the scene" with pop-punk or whatever. That's paranoid bullshit.

beardkill_ 2/5/2011 8:40:23 AM

its the victory curse. you put out 2 decent albums, then the third is always garbage. happens to every band on victory. my girlfriend listens to ADTR, and i cant stand anything from this album. weaksauce.

josh_ 2/16/2011 10:17:53 PM

Wow, i thought this album actually wasnt half bad so yall needa stop bein pricks and get a life :D

Candy_ 2/17/2011 11:00:19 PM

FUUUCK you dickass. Just because it isn't super hardcore and has a different sound than you like doesn't make them the shit you made them out to be. They can do whatever they want with their music. If you don't like it, then don't listen to it and don't make stupid ass reviews to try to make yourself sound like you know what you're talking about.

Isaidit_ 2/24/2011 8:11:30 AM

Candy. Youre a c*nt.

haha_ 3/1/2011 3:37:06 AM

It's funny how kids are like, "If you don't like it, don't listen to it and don't review it." So all reviews are supposed to be of what people like? Grow up.

cthulhu_ 4/3/2011 11:30:24 PM

I see the Target/Best buy gimmick was used but this comment section is CLEARLY lacking the "much needed clove after"

anonymous 2/26/2012 6:18:26 PM
