corey, you should have kept your bias out of this about their member changes and marketable name. you hit it dead on with saying that this band is good because of their aggressive nature and not for originality, but accept the release for what it is without concerning the current line up. seriously, even if it is not original, it is good. it obviously isn't "opposite of december" but it is still very aggressive and awesome in a different fashion.

This record is receiving great reviews elsewhere. It's shocking that it's lambgoat (and embarrassing that it's Cory) getting it right. I haven't really listened closely to Versions yet, but I've heard bits and pieces of it. It sounded boring. The number one reason I know this sucks: my brother likes it. When he's not listening to Avenged Sevenfold he listens to PTW.

I agree with cory on this one actually. I was really anticipating this album and I barely made it through letter things on a casual listen, then being a poison the well fan forced myself to sit down with the record and listen to the whole thing and just became really bored with it, I'm very disappointed with this release.

I listened to this album at LEAST a dozen times trying desperately to hear what everyone was raving about. It's honestly just amusing me how willing to buy into hype everyone is. This record is a piece of shit and reviews one way or the other won't change that.
I can't stand this style of music anymore, and I used to love this band. BUUTTTT I gave this record a shot based of theprp guys review, and I really like it. Even if you don't like the band (which Corey clearly does not) you have to at least respect the varied song writing this record has. Christ, it sounds NOTHING Like converge.

All the band references listed in this review are far from correct. This is the least perfect of PTW's albums, but it isn't a terrible record by any means. As far as i'm concerned, YCBY is their best work, and anyone who says otherwise is a gay stuck in a hardcore time-warp. Things change, even if those changes are less than favorable. Anyway, 6 or 7 is what I would have given this, but not a 4. Everyone has their own opinions though, however it's funny to see the arguments laid out here...

If anything, I'd say they stole from Burst's "Origio". The final track on that one had the same metalcore-gone-western feel to it. And heck, there's some Cave-In style watery riffs on "Slow Good Morning". Can't say I hear much Converge, except the basic "all modern metalcore bands owe part of their sound to Converge" kinda thing. Either way, I like the new sound a lot. "Versions" is actually the first PtW that I've ever really liked and I'm glad they abandoned that bullshit boo-hoo emo attitu

Holy Shit, This cd is more queer than anything fall out boy has ever released. Good god this band went from decent to just laughable over such a long period of time. The Opposite of December was pretty good, but more because of the drumming than anything else. When Hornbrook decided to forget how to play drums, the band lost everything. My God, this guy here's some drum rolls and some shouting and can only compare it to Last Light. That's the such an awful stereotype and shows how little you can distinguish in huge stylistic differences. The guitars on Letter Thing are way more progressive and technical than in Last Light. They maybe similar, but in no way can you say that it's a blatant rip off. I mean the drums rolls are played way more on the upbeat in Letter Thing, giving it a completely different feel. wow that is one obviously one side of the fence opinion.. poison the well started back in what 97?.. and never really followed any trends just set the bar for music of its own nature many years in advance.. they also put out several records over many years never rushing to the next just to make a buck.. ..

I really enjoyed versions, in fact i'm a big fan of all their material from YCBY. You come before you is the peak of their musical creativity. Versions is much better after multiple listens but isn't memorable enough. A throw away album after a few months. Only album I listen to on a regular basis is YCBY. Such an under rated album YCBY is.
this cd, sounds like the B-Side of "You Come Before You" ..... it's good ..but i don't know... it feels like there's something missing ....
