When I received my latest batch of CD's to review in mail, I began to read the band names to my slightly overweight roommate. When I got to Flee The Seen, he said, "Oh, that's a pretty cool name." The main point of the story, other than calling my roommate fat, is that his name compliment is about the only good thing I can say about this band. According to my press sheet, Flee The Seen plays an "honest and passionate blend of rock fueled scream-core." Now if you're still reading this review after hearing that description, I applaud your determination, but here's another letdown: they don't even do it well. Flee The Seen will surely garner some attention from a good number of angst-ridden alterna-teens who thought they've heard all possible screamo variations, because this band is essentially female fronted. Though they use the standard screamo "dual vocal assault," the majority of singing on this album is done by bassist Kim Anderson, and, as I might add, is done rather poorly. The first single from Doubt Becomes The New Addiction, "Wire Tap Out," features Anderson recklessly falling in and out of tune with no consideration for the comfort of the listener. If you manage to make it all the way to the end of the song without cringing, you surely won't be able to get past her painful wailing of "After the dial tone / Wears itself thin / This sound will rise."In fact, I would argue that the tenth track, "Start The End Again" possesses one of the top five most annoying vocal parts that I've ever heard. Bold claim Yes. True If not, it's pretty damn close. Musically, you've heard this all before. Whichever screamo references you choose to use (I, for one, recommend the Silverstein-esque derivation) will work just fine. For very brief moments of time, there are some slightly promising lead guitar parts, but they don't last long enough to save any part of this disc. The pop-punkish parts on this CD aren't that impressive, and the heavy parts are miles away from being memorable. And a word to all drummers in this genre: seriously guys, enough with the double bass. We all know that you can run down to your local music store and grab another pedal, but that doesn't make it right, now does it Bottom Line: I don't like this CD. I'm sure that a solid number of misguided scene kids will find interest in this female fronted version of their favorite "screamo" band, but one day somewhere down the line, they'll wake up and be embarrassed to have called this a favorite. I've listened to this CD five times too many.

FIRST TO SAY FIRST POST!

wearyourwounds_ 3/29/2006 10:59:30 AM

how can a site like lambgoat still call shit like this screamo?? what do they call bands like saetia or portrait

alex_ 3/29/2006 11:56:18 AM

he addressed the screamo label within the review, and also used it in quotes at the end... i'm pretty sure he knows that this isn't really screamo

redandblackink_ 3/29/2006 12:01:01 PM

as alex said, two of the three times he called it screamo were in quotes, with one quote directly attributed to the press release. stop crying into your orchid t-shirts.

Scandy_ 3/29/2006 1:01:37 PM

My apologies for not putting screamo in quotes every time I used it. I figured that would get old. There's no need to get angry over the genre-labeling of a horrid band like Flee The Seen.

mlpjr_ 3/29/2006 1:18:48 PM

Review the band next time, not the genre.

IronBalls_ 3/29/2006 1:33:04 PM

I'm listening to a song on the e-card just to see. and i have to say this is a very accurate review. Ok, i cant take this anymore.. *turns song off*

Who is Nick Scandy and why the hell is he such a dead on reviewer? Seriouly, one of the best reviews I've read on this site. People, shut up, we know this isn't screamo.

Bob (REAL) Rock, The_ 3/29/2006 2:33:27 PM

Keep Scandy. f*cking fire Gluck.

anonymous 3/29/2006 2:37:24 PM

entertaining review, but please lambgoat...start reviewing worthwhile albums rather than complete dong huffing horsehit.

cuttolength_ 3/29/2006 2:46:01 PM

this is horrible. 0/10

veganxkate_ 3/29/2006 2:59:28 PM

i agree- review the album not the genre. why would you review an album in a genre you hate? pass it along to one of the other staff members who are into this type of music. for this style- this is a great album. hardcore pricks need not listen, but music fans will enjoy.

matt_ 3/29/2006 3:08:47 PM

wow. my hat goes off to you for listening to that from start to finish. I couldnt take that voice for 20 seconds let alone the whole record.

nick_ 3/29/2006 3:09:38 PM

I hope you know that no one takes lambgoats reviews seriously haha

screamo sucks_ 3/29/2006 8:57:56 PM

Who cares? Screamo sucks anyways... reversal of man, yapphet koto, orchid, saetia... all that shit sucks. It all sounds the same. Bad singing, horrendous screaming, out of tune clean guitars and boring spaz riffs. Bike punks suck too.

hcbradley_ 3/29/2006 9:52:05 PM

I f*cking love this cd. f*ck all of you, you dont know music. all you guys care about is the chugga chugga and when a real band comes along with a real gimmick, they get shot down. I better not catch you in the xpitx talking that xshitx

TheReapersSon_ 3/30/2006 2:37:13 AM

The guy above me is a total gay.

"And a word to all drummers in this genre: seriously guys, enough with the double bass. We all know that you can run down to your local music store and grab another pedal, but that doesn't make it right, now does it?" Haha, pwned.

vegans_taste_good_ 3/30/2006 9:07:01 AM

this band ultra bad

willxcore_ 3/30/2006 10:27:41 AM

i never really cared about what real screamo was, i knew that certain elitists had their own group of bands that they held cherishly in high regard. i decided to check out the band saetia and while it may be a little more "raw" and heartfelt than flee the seen.. i still don't think it's any better.

picturesofme_ 3/30/2006 10:40:31 AM

willxcore has dicks for ears. the dude is such a flaming worthless piece of shit that he won't even post on the board. hey douchebag...NO ONE f*ckING CARES WHAT YOU THINK.

wizardsbeard_ 4/5/2006 7:54:08 AM

Great review. At first I thought Rock-Fueld Scream Car was a new kind of Green Vehicle.

Ryne_ 4/5/2006 6:55:22 PM

I can stand it.

Steve _ 4/15/2006 4:23:22 AM

finally a comment that tells the truth...i was sick of reading articles saying this is the best crappist cd i ever heard! and saying kim is one of the best female vocalist today...more like most annoying. Thanx for this great review.

sylvia_ 4/22/2006 4:20:46 PM

total crap!!! What a waste of mine and their time!!! Where has the good music gone?????

JesusBroseph_ 6/5/2006 1:56:49 PM

"And a word to all drummers in this genre: seriously guys, enough with the double bass. We all know that you can run down to your local music store and grab another pedal, but that doesn't make it right, now does it?" This would ALMOST have been funny if Aaron used double bass a lot, standing as how he doesn't, it just goes to show the reviewer stopped lisetning after song 3.

terrible_ 9/27/2006 12:02:47 AM
