2005 Fat Wreck Chords
Our score 9

11/16/2005

This may feel like a thesis but when you get the opportunity to write about one of your favorite band's new releases, you grab and run with it. For those unaware, Propagandhi is one of the best bands around. No matter what you grew up with, metal, hardcore, pop punk or anything that falls underneath the independent umbrella, one cannot deny the impact that these three (previously four) Canucks from Winnipeg have bestowed upon us. They are witty, sarcastic, informative, talented, musically inclined and above all, intelligent. Serving the purpose of conveying their beliefs to a wider audience, this band has never been more about stirring up the pot than now. Four years have passed since, Today's Empires, Tomorrows Ashes was released on Fat Wreck Chords in 2001 and not only have things become more musically stale than ever, but politically things have changed drastically since Propagandhi have last spoken out. Potemkin City Limits contains more substance and wisdom than most high school classrooms contain these days. Musically, I can't even begin to tell how dynamic this juvenile pop punk band have become. Songs like "Die Jugend Marschiert" are around four minutes in length but feel like fifteen, in a good way. The art is breathtaking and the information is valuable so one can create their own opinion, rather than clones of one another. How much praise can one record receive you ask Well, in this case it is deserving much as Bad Religion's Generator or NOFX's Punk In Drublic have been over the years. Maybe this won't be as timeless or carry the same impact, but the potential exists. Bottom Line: Propagandhi have created the best record of the year in my estimation. The music, packaging, message and heart behind this release, it's no wonder it took them four years to put it all together. Those looking for records that reminded them why we are all participating in this scene, look no further as you have found your match. You may actually learn something.

1/2/3/4th post?

ghetto_paul_ 11/16/2005 9:44:15 AM

"this is an awesome album. go buy it" would have been much more to the point, and would have said just as much as the review itself.

XjohnnyXrebelX_ 11/16/2005 9:47:56 AM

This was garbage! I can not believe this review. I listened to the song and they are playing that fat wreck shords shit that has been played for f*cking years. Nothing new. Nothing different. And this is still just a Canadian band singing songs about how much they hate america. I wish these f*cks would just stay over in Canada. If I had my way, I would KILL everyone in that band. But I don't. I seriously give that song on here a 2/10.

jerseyislame_ 11/16/2005 9:50:48 AM

HARKINS RULES!

elliot_ 11/16/2005 9:59:40 AM

"I listened to the song and they are playing that fat wreck shords shit that has been played for f*cking years."....oh, okay! so you're completely retarded then? because this album is ridiculously f*cking amazing, and blows the shit out of just about anything on fat right now. take the tampons outta your ears, chump.

DCR_ 11/16/2005 10:01:47 AM

So in other words, this is a 9/10 because it's one of the reviewers favorite bands. Yeah, ok... "Musically, I can't even begin to tell how dynamic this juvenile pop punk band have become." Then don't review it.

tony_ 11/16/2005 10:22:16 AM

great album, shit review.

IronBalls_ 11/16/2005 11:09:40 AM

haha Harkins?? f*ck I want to review an album too now

$hiz_ 11/16/2005 11:16:12 AM

"the information is valuable so one can create their own opinion, rather than clones of one another" bullshit.... penis-wrinkle band who obviously never took economics. 1/10 for blatant fellatio.

jMERRICK_ 11/16/2005 11:29:53 AM

Uhhm great review. I completley agree with this being one of the best albums of the year. BUT to my knowledge Propagandhi has always consisted of three members. Every major recording they have done, from "How to Clean Everything" and on, they have been a three piece. Also, to those who are not impressed with the sample mp3, keep in mind that it is probably the weakest track on the album. Do not judge the entire album on the basis of one song. It makes you look like a f*cktard.

jMERRICK_ 11/16/2005 11:37:39 AM

OK I would like to take back my comment on this being a great review. I had just read the bottom line before. Having gone back and read the entire thing, I am now mad. This review is the shits. Don't ever refer to the single most important band in punk rock as a "juvenile pop punk band"!! That is the most insulting thing I have EVER heard!!

sifl_ 11/16/2005 11:37:58 AM

+1 for moby dick reference

yourmom_ 11/16/2005 11:55:21 AM

"I wish these f*cks would just stay over in Canada." You say this like americans aren't up in everyone else's f*cking business around the world.

theforeverfight_ 11/16/2005 12:11:12 PM

ok.. this guys an idot.. how can he say it is good for anyone .. ppl who like metal dont like this shit.. what a f*ckin idiot.. its ok for poppunk i guess but i stick to in flames

eunuchknife_ 11/16/2005 12:22:59 PM

This my least favorite of their albums, but it's still well worth buying. 7/10

fk_ 11/16/2005 12:34:42 PM

as a long time fan, i am impressed and delighted with how this album turned out. nothing but heart and soul from these guys.

sharkfight_ 11/16/2005 12:58:48 PM

wayne campbell: "wow, this really did an amazing, excellent job of talking about the quality of music on the album... not."

anonymous 11/16/2005 1:06:05 PM

good sample track

anonymous 11/16/2005 1:07:23 PM

welcome to someone elses opinion population shut the f*ck up

Tim_Diesel_ 11/16/2005 1:23:02 PM

This was a horrible review. Stick with f*cking bands over on Abacus and singing for Mikoto, you can't write for shit.

rikethink_ 11/16/2005 1:42:45 PM

Great album; but this review could've been more informative, I guess. For anybody who doesn't already have the album, or hasn't heard it, the review doesn't say very much. I mean the most information given about any song is: "Songs like 'Die Jugend Marschiert' are around four minutes in length but feel like fifteen, in a good way." Anyway, Propagandhi is one of the best bands going. And easily one of the most intelligent and well-spoken. The 9/10 rating is certainly appropriate...

TheWood_ 11/16/2005 1:52:52 PM

They are coming to play my university on Friday and I am f*cking excited, to say the least. Perhaps not the greatest review I've ever read, but that's beside the point; Propagandhi own.

ChorisAxia_ 11/16/2005 4:10:42 PM

Damn that was a horrible review. I feel like I just listened to a 15 year old girl tell me about the cutest boy in school.

foxhulud_ 11/16/2005 4:35:41 PM

I'm right with you, Ray. 9 out of 10 though? Mine goes to 11.

insideyou_ 11/16/2005 4:46:20 PM

geez..you gays sure whine a lot.

Cory_ 11/16/2005 5:26:35 PM

where's the review? this record is a huge letdown compared to their last two really incredible records. i love propagandhi, but this record is meh.

CrownofSouls_ 11/16/2005 5:29:23 PM

"ok.. this guys an idot.. how can he say it is good for anyone .. ppl who like metal dont like this shit.. what a f*ckin idiot.. its ok for poppunk i guess but i stick to in flames" uh, hey, hows it goin? I like metal and i LOVE this album. and by metal, i mean REAL metal, ie. not bullshit panty-waist metal that you listen to, like f*cking in flames. and by the way this is a THRASH album, there is not an ounce of what you so contemptuously refer to as pop-punk on the ENTIRE f*ckING ALBUM. So

JohnnyJohnny_ 11/16/2005 6:03:58 PM

this album and this band are awesome. f*ck the haterz.

notorious_dob_ 11/16/2005 6:11:39 PM

Dingleberry_ 11/16/2005 6:13:46 PM

blast_beat_ 11/16/2005 7:27:07 PM

1/10 for blatant fellatio. HAHAHAHHAHAHHHAHHAHAA

gaytard_ 11/16/2005 8:17:15 PM

"Those looking for records that reminded them why we are all participating in this scene, look no further as you have found your match" Great sentence. This is like the Paradise Lost of reviews.

sal_ 11/16/2005 9:56:38 PM

this is one of your favorite bands and yet you have no idea that they've been a 3 member band since the begining, been to alot of their shows have ya? Good Album Bad Review

john_doe_ 11/16/2005 9:57:09 PM

hradcore//metal//punk rock?!

shit poop_ 11/17/2005 12:25:29 AM

this shit is ghey

yourhippiekillingdad_ 11/17/2005 12:48:20 AM

i find none of this conservative/american bashing witty/informative/talented/intelligent. like green day (it hurt to type that name), this kind of thinking is becoming cliche. nor is it metal/hardcore/pop/punk. i can see the few left punk rockers shitting themselves reading that. it would be more punk to chant "America, f*ck yeah"... oh wait two Canucks already did that (sarcastic ir not; my buddy's platoon blasts that from his stryker in Afghan.). Again, this is not for everyone, and not as we

eunuchknife_ 11/17/2005 10:10:14 AM

" it would be more punk to chant "America, f*ck yeah"... oh wait two Canucks already did that . . ." LOL! No. No it wouldn't. And the south park guys are American, of course (if they were who you were talking about). And if you're looking for a punk rock slogan, I think something more along the lines of "Potato chips, f*ck Yeah!" would close to the target. Then again, if you're confused about what is or is not punk rock, listed to "Anarchy Burger," "Punk Rock Girl," or any other classi

yourhippiekillingdad_ 11/17/2005 11:16:50 AM

"And the south park guys are American, of course..." correct, but since you realized that, how did you not catch the sarcasm in calling them Canucks, esp. after Bigger, Longer, and Uncut... oh well. Maybe only Stone and Parker would appreciate that. And there's no confusion here. Growning up in 9 states all over this country, traveling abroad, etc, essentially growning up with friends in "the scene"; one can't be considered confused or ignorant. It was always about principle, not belligerence...

Fur_Beach_ 11/17/2005 4:01:28 PM

This reviewer is a retard, this cd shouldnt be reviewed on a (supposedly) metal/hardcore site, this band should be placed in front of a firing squad. Nobody cares about their opinions, or their simplistic music. Just because you listened to them when you were a kid doesn't mean they should automatically get a good review.

MitchConnor_ 11/17/2005 4:45:15 PM

I used to like this band until I heard they were gay.

ass_bag_ 11/17/2005 8:35:26 PM

Okay, two things: 1- Propagandhi isn't gay. Here's proof, taken from their website FAQ: Q: "Are you guys gay?" A: "Yawn. No. We are not gay. At least not in the sexual sense of the word. Ha. But, really, so what if we were? It's like, 2001, fer chrissakes. Calm down and get a grip already. People are different. As long as people are looking out for each other, whatever floats their horny little boats is cool by us. We fully support the movement for gay and lesbian liberation. So there."

anonymous 11/17/2005 8:40:30 PM

what next? reviews for good charlotte and green day? give me a f*cking break and get some real music reviewed. kthx.

ass_bag_ 11/17/2005 9:38:56 PM

gawd...what a douche bag. Comparing Propagandhi to Green Day or Good Charlotte?! You are obviously a retard with no idea what you're talking about. way to go. hahaha.

elliot_ 11/18/2005 1:18:24 AM

"Bands this honest and void of all the scene bullshit and trends don't come around too often."....exactly. they even have an entire song completely bashing fat mike (who owns their record label) and the whole rock against bush thing, for being retarded. a perfect example of propagandhi not giving a shit about anything but making amazing music on their own terms, and no one else's.

anonymous 11/18/2005 1:46:35 AM

this shit is amazing. period.

shitgrinder_ 11/18/2005 5:26:07 AM

"I f*ckin' love that one rock video where that f*cking jack-ass mohawked millionaire prances around by far the worst sausage party on earth, where by mere chance he's caught on film shaking hands with an incredibly diverse collection of patriotic skins. I like the message it sends: With a Rebel yell, Just Do Exactly What You're Told. One million douche bags can't be wrong? "When did punk rock become so safe?" You'll excuse me if I laugh in your face as I itemize your receipts and PowerPoint your

Fred_ 11/18/2005 10:53:44 AM

Ummmmmm ass_bag..... Your comment about Propagandhi NOT being gay further proves the fact that they are truely complete gays.

ronenk_ 11/18/2005 12:06:26 PM

If you think this album doesn't belong on this site, then your conept of hardcore is f*cked. A lot of ignorant shit being said on this thread. Go throw yourself out a window.

CrownofSouls_ 11/18/2005 1:33:14 PM

Dingleberry- I haven't ever heard Disturbed you douche-bag. Now I'll let you get back to practicing your floorpunches in your parents bastufft to release all that built up angst you have for not being able to admit to the world that all you want is a huge dink shoved down your throat. see ya later princess.

big buck_ 11/18/2005 6:29:48 PM

atleast this band has more to say than "front to back side to side f*** this place up!!!!!"

panzram_ 11/18/2005 8:08:28 PM

Wow, what a shit review. Lambgoat should exercise some editorial oversight before it publishes vapid fanboy ranting.

youequalcunt_ 11/19/2005 11:18:32 AM

propaghandi great band. Half of you f*ckers were probably 12 when their first record released and listening to metallica. Eat shit haters!

Murph_ 11/19/2005 11:48:17 AM

This is thrash. This is hardcore. Listen to Chris's guitar riffs. He shreds like an MF. I don't necessarily agree with all of their politics, but at least they try to step outside of negative social conditioning, which is more than i can say for most of you homophobic boy's club f*cks.

mirk_ 11/19/2005 4:07:11 PM

haha. murph likes this band because they are gay and he can easily relate to their day to day struggles.

anonymous 11/23/2005 11:33:58 PM

mallcore at its best

beltsaNder_ 11/24/2005 3:14:41 AM

mallcore?!?! you have no clue what you're saying...hahahaha. Go listen to some tough guy bro mosh band with some sick breakdowns

word_ 11/24/2005 4:10:43 AM

people complain about this getting reviewed on here? what the f*ck is wrong with you. simplistic music? have you ever heard half of the gaygorty they discuss on here? atreyu? from autumn to ashes? bury your dead? throwdown? ... that shit is MUCH easier to play than this. f*ck off. its time for a reality check jerks.

Anthony_ 11/24/2005 5:59:46 AM

basically this album is bad ass. I listen to PUNK(and this album is punk)HARDCORE(real hardcore, not pssy metal bullshit) and HIPHOP(nothing alot of you fruits would know). first off all, anyone who bitches about this album is probably a worthless metal head fruit who lives in his bastufft(tells his mom its his dungeon) and dresses like marilyn manson. god damn, metal heads are worse than emo kids....metal heads to me are like extreme star wars fans who dress like the characters at movie premir

Jerrid_ 11/25/2005 1:21:07 AM

the people who thought this album/band sucks are the same people who are commenting on how great the new record from burnt by the sun is going to be. they also listen to bury your dead and think that's technical music.

Strongarm_ 11/27/2005 5:45:52 AM

I dunno. I like punk/hardcore(hardcore punk)/metalcore, metal, and I liked this album. This is some good genuine punk without the posturing. Props to these guys for making heartfelt, passionate music. f*ck all haters, they probably ARE those stupid nu-metal kids who think Slipknot "RULES" and REAL metal/hardcore sucks. How f*cking sad..

ihateemo123_ 10/10/2008 10:13:33 PM

i haven't heard this album, but if its as good as Less Talk, More Rock, and Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes, I'll definitly have to check this out.
