Since automobile production in the U.S. has dropped sharply, it seems Detroit's only exportable product is metal-influenced hardcore bands who make that fat tough guy who gets in all the fights at your local shows look like a sissy. The Alliance is a total throwback, straight from the angel statue on the cover all the way to the acoustic intro to one of the songs. In the same sense Boston hardcore has cannibalized its back-catalog to create a new generation of bands, Detroit has managed to channel its history into similarly aggressive groups. The difference is that I wouldn't worry about being mugged by hardcore kids in Boston. If you grew up in the 90's, then you've heard it before. The Alliance pull influences from Cold As Life, Earthmover, and ultimately, their neighbor to the south, Integrity. You either know this and love it, or you have written it off along with jerseys and Krishna beads. If you were born after 1985, then imagine very angry mid-paced hardcore without the level of musicianship found in modern metalcore. Personally, I'm not into it. But I have to stand back and soak in the cultural significance of music this rough. What does it say about the Motor City Every lyric is about struggle and filled with anger towards an unnamed oppressor/traitor. Try "I hope you suffer a horrible death for trying to break apart my family," or "Death to anyone who dares judge me you don't have a fucking clue," or my favorite, "I'll never forget where I came from and the constant struggle. Great Lakes Hard Core [sic] Detroit Michigan Mutherfucker [sic]." Say what you will about this album, but no one can deny it has a strong theme. The following are single lines taken from each of the nine tracks on Time Heals Nothing: 1) "You've dug your fucking grave, now lie in it." 2) "Never once did I pretend that this would fucking last forever." 3) "This fucking game you play has gone on far too long." 4) "So how can I trust someone that won't look me in the fucking eye, how can I trust someone without a fucking spine. [sic]" 5) "Everyone else can fucking die." 6) "Mistake my kindness for weakness and that's your fucking life." 7) "So fucking weak." 8) "Often I wonder if I even fucking care." 9) "If from here on out you still don't get the point, you deserve to fucking suffocate." That is a TON of "fucking" and totally represents the band's approach. At first I hesitated to give this a bad review, thinking "am I going to get beaten for this" But having sized up this band's take on the world, I'm guessing they'll see this as another struggle to overcome and not take it personally. Indecently, Time Heals Nothing is also the name of a Crowbar album. So either the men of The Alliance are truly throwbacks and embracing '95, or are co-opting the title and challenging Crowbar to a tough-off contest. May the best band win Bottom Line: This holds nothing for me. Musically it doesn't excite me and I can't relate lyrically. Time Heals Nothing is interesting as a look into a sub-sub-culture, but has little value otherwise. Like I said, you either love this stuff and will embrace it outright or you'll forget about it. I'm opting for the latter.

I'd give this higher than a 3, I've heard this and it's more along the lines of a 5.

Ohhhhh_ 2/6/2005 12:21:10 AM

wow, they curse more than most rappers. i think it's a good rating how it is.

anonymous 2/6/2005 1:17:26 AM

after this and the last perfection review, it seems like this kid should be writing reviews for buddyhead.com and not lambgoat.com... if you hate everything, why the f*ck are you reviewing CDs.

..._ 2/6/2005 2:19:16 AM

chariotos_ 2/6/2005 2:47:55 AM

renegade_ 2/6/2005 9:31:26 AM

If I'm not mistaken, Crowbar already released lbum entitled "Time Heals Nothing".

renegade_ 2/6/2005 9:32:08 AM

march_of_flames_ 2/6/2005 11:03:25 AM

yeah so at first I though the review was a little harsh but after listening to the available track I thought the review was too nice! this band stinks, their riffs are the same as shitty riffs I pull out of my ass when I'm drunk and passing out. who gave these guys a record deal, they must have been on crack

erik_ 2/6/2005 2:28:50 PM

don't judge michigan based on what comes out of detroit. detroit sucks pretty bad.

anonymous 2/6/2005 4:21:15 PM

how come mp3's are only availible for bands you dont want to listen to anyway?

Dave_ 2/7/2005 1:25:14 PM

That fruit ckk probably will eat this shit up.

Its Tragic_ 2/7/2005 1:47:01 PM

eh, i love that they are playing stuff that reminds me of a better time in hardcore, but if this were still 95, i wouldn't be excited about this band specificly. there were a number of other bands doing something i liked more, and there's just not enough boom-chop chugs to be REAL 95-era hardcore. But i would pick this over any bleeding through/as i lay dying/atreyu type bullshit.

wyatt_ 2/8/2005 3:21:55 PM

its dying out thank god

BryanFerry_ 2/8/2005 9:24:55 PM

Bands like this need to f*cking go away already...

greaser_ 2/15/2005 10:59:03 AM

Why not just say it sucks instead of requiring me to read that entire pile of shit!

detroit_ 2/15/2005 2:38:29 PM

whether or not this shit rocks your socks off doesn't make or break this band's integrity and old skool roots. period. don't like it? don't listen. why badmouth some of Detroit's coolest and most dedicated boys because they aren't pumping out the shit in your musical rotation? Shut your yapper and review a band you DO like. This negative feedback does NOTHING good for whats left of a once powerful and meaningful scene. (88-98 for all you little blink182 kids and Atreyu fans.) The Allianc

getkrunk187_ 2/19/2005 5:34:57 PM

if you dont like this brand of hardcore go review something else. dont go trashing every band in a genre bc they arent "technical" enough. go listen to dep and jack off to some sporadic guitar solos you fruit.

Detroit soldier_ 7/12/2005 8:48:25 AM

f*ck all you niggas that arn't down, go dye your hair black and buy some more girl pants you f*cking homo's. Leave the real hardcore to the ones who know what it's about. THIS BAND IS DETROIT HARDCORE, ALL YOU METAL gayS CAN EAT A DICK!

biggie_ 8/1/2005 1:39:29 AM

First of all who ever said the alliance helped big the detroit hardcore scene doesnt know shit H8inc yeah ex cold as life and bands like earthmover, tank, spit and so on. the led singer of this band played in 2 crap bands called nish and shutter no hardcore at all so dont even try to say this band helped build the detroit scene

biggie_ 8/1/2005 1:56:37 AM

And as for the guy doing reviews this band is better then a 3 at least a 6 even though its nothing new i still like just straight up hardcore
