Abacus Recordings shuts down

Tuesday, July 24, 2007 9:11 PM PT

Abacus Recordings has officially ceased to exist. Portions of the one-time Century Media Records imprint will now be folded back into Century Media. Launched in 2002, the label was originally headed by Century Media co-owner Robert Kampf. Roughly two years ago Abacus and Century Media split, with Kampf choosing to relinquish his portion of ownership. Details regarding the latest arrangement between the two entities are scant, but it appears that certain Abacus bands will now be brought over to the Century Media roster. In recent years Abacus has released material by Sick Of It All, Ion Dissonance, and Sworn Enemy, among many others.

7/25/2007 9:34:20 AM
So what's going to happen with records that were supposed to be released by this label later? (The Agony Scene, Sworn Enemy, etc.)

7/25/2007 10:12:56 AM
i hope now we can get a R4 reunion

7/25/2007 10:39:31 AM
andrewchz^^^ hpefully they don`t release them the agony scene sucks donkey dck and sworn enemy last album sucked so bad i never want to hear anything new from them ever again

7/25/2007 10:44:18 AM
thats what happens when you sign 2 millions bands in one month! fcking morons.

7/25/2007 11:29:26 AM
Sometimes I wondered if Abacus was a joke label, they signed bands that were so horrid and run of the mill, it didnt make sense.

7/25/2007 11:30:47 AM
And they totally blew that Turmoil reunion. Maybe now Ion D will get some proper support.

7/25/2007 11:43:45 AM
century has wayyyyy to many bands now

7/25/2007 11:48:32 AM
they went under because they had to provide their bands with revlon instead of the store brands

7/25/2007 11:51:09 AM
Maybe it's because no one ever knew when Abacus records were coming out, let alone available

7/25/2007 12:32:04 PM
man, the first thing i thought when i read this was "sorry, turmoil"... their reunion show all they talked about was how much century media sucked balls

7/25/2007 1:06:18 PM
limpbizkitequalstight 7/25/2007 11:48:32 AM they went under because they had to provide their bands with revlon instead of the store brands./ hahaha. also luckily turmoil got out of there deals with these two shit markets a while ago.

7/25/2007 1:46:45 PM
I mean this label DID at times have some really good bands... Ion Dissonance, Turmoil, Swarm of the Lotus, Bleeding Kansas, Glass Casket (well, sort of), Heaven Shall Burn... it's not like they were all crap.

7/25/2007 2:35:17 PM
somewhere, Dr. Radiation is doing a fist pump and saying 'YEAH, fck YOU ABACUS!!!'

7/25/2007 4:41:15 PM
Ray Harkins, I hope you go hungry. ps. R4>

7/25/2007 5:20:49 PM
+ Bleeding Kansas

7/26/2007 12:54:35 AM
Had some solid releases, other than that, shit label, mostly shit bands, and treated their bands like garbage, from what I hears.

7/26/2007 1:35:27 PM
Is that why all these lame faux-tech talentless ass-clown breakdown warriors have flooded the new lineup of CM? Anything without ultimately ripping solos doesn't belong on a "metal" label. Grrr.

7/26/2007 6:22:37 PM
the only good band to ever come out of this label was bleeding kansas.

7/26/2007 10:05:44 PM
Yes! My contract with them is officially VOID! gay ass label.

7/27/2007 3:45:03 AM
that sucks for Ion D, decent friends, but that new shit is fckin awful.

7/27/2007 4:32:36 AM
lol

7/27/2007 5:32:42 PM
Hopefully Embrace the End will release something soon now!
