Unearth writing new album

Monday, November 21, 2005 6:00 PM PT

Official press release:

Unearth's Metal Blade Records 2004 debut, The Oncoming Storm is the tempest which unveiled these masters onto metal hungry black hearts. Spawned from heavy music's breeding ground of Massachusetts, the 2004 release saw record breaking sales, more than 120,000 scanned for this Metal Blade Records masterpiece; as well as much critical acclaim in Alternative Press, Entertainment Weekly, Revolver Magazine, Rolling Stone, and so many more.

Unearth's constant road grind has been an uncompromising power since 2003 when they teamed up with contemporaries Lamb Of God, Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall with God Forbid for the first in a series of MTV 2 Headbangers Ball Tours; even setting out on the second trek of MTV 2 HBB Tour with Drowning Pool, Hatebreed and Damage Plan (Dimebag Darrell RIP). Then, landing stage time on Ozzfest's critically acclaimed second stage (2004), then marching on to other triumphant tours, including the inaugural The Sounds Of The Underground Tour (2005).

Vocalist Trevor Phipps reflects, "It has been an amazing couple of years for us and we are just blown away by the overwhelming response we have received around the world. We are about to go into writing hibernation and pool our collective experiences together to make another bad ass record. So far what we have written is faster, heavier and darker than anything we have ever done. We will unleash the best record of our lives next summer. With us a ton of touring is imminent when we put out a record, so we will be back to all the places we traveled to the past two years and even add a few more countries and continents to the list in '06 and '07.

As for our last few shows of the album cycle, we will be playing in Boston, Portland and Providence before we go away for a while. Playing all three of these cities is something we used to do every other weekend back in the day, but we haven't been to either place in at least two years so we felt the need to visit again before we are done. It is something we are looking forward to and the bands playing are bands we hand picked for a reason."

Unearth crossed seas and borders to have their message heard; with their mind blowing performance at The Download Festival in the UK and Rock Am Ring and Rock Am Park in Germany. Unearth slayed audiences during their worldly travels from coast to coast on several continents performing along side such giants that make up today's aggressive music forecast like Killswitch Engage, Dillinger Escape Plan, Norma Jean, As I Lay Dying, A Life Once Lost, Sick Of It All, Atreyu, Black Dahlia Murder and Terror. Ending their successful campaign as co-support act on this Fall's Final Volume Tour with label mates As I Lay Dying on Slipknot's final masked run for the year.

Now Unearth bring it home with these last three shows to give fans the opportunity to see the band before they go into the studio to record their next opus.

Why record a new album? Roadrunner can just reissue The Oncoming Storm for the fourth time.... And this coming from somebody who (gasp) likes this band....

11/21/2005 6:09:56 PM
fcking gay

11/21/2005 6:12:59 PM
Worst Press Release Ever.

11/21/2005 6:18:19 PM
crap crap crap.

11/21/2005 6:20:21 PM
who buys into this shit. why dont they thin ka little higher of themselves.

11/21/2005 6:25:26 PM
I think they will get even better w/ this release. I foresee many typical negative comments ahead by stupid ignorant punks alike who will call them "gay" or something equally immature who can't admit liking a band when they make it big.

11/21/2005 6:30:19 PM
this band will always be awesome. 2 years ago everyone knows they thought unearth was the shit.

11/21/2005 6:31:40 PM
unearth sucks

11/21/2005 6:32:04 PM
well, I predict something along the lines of bro-tastic, mosh-heavy mall-core. That's just way too many hyphens for me.

11/21/2005 6:36:57 PM
I was actually happy for these guys making it big. I'm excited for the new stuff. The Oncoming Storm was the shit.

11/21/2005 6:37:45 PM
the only time I will ever say this, play more breakdowns! you guys arent metal!

11/21/2005 6:47:10 PM
Didn't like them when they weren't selling out but I do know this, THEY WILL DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY, TURN HIP HOP!!!!!!!! PPFFFFFFFFTTT!!!!

11/21/2005 6:56:35 PM
torche, backstabbers inc.. and generic metalcore? i feel bad for fans of the talented bands that are playing that show.

11/21/2005 6:59:24 PM
jesus christ.. the most sugar-coated, hype-filled press release ever. decent band but get a fcking grip, they're not that great.

11/21/2005 7:11:26 PM
Hey Trev, fck that faster darker shit, tell the world what it's really gonna sound like, " THE BANDS WE TOURED WITH IN 2005 IS WHAT WE WANT TO SOUND LIKE" is what it should have said!!

11/21/2005 7:36:11 PM
18th post. Don't care.

11/21/2005 7:40:57 PM
Sounds like it's going to be a huge departure from what every other band that they sound like is doing! Gothencore with so-so leads and mosh callouts? Sign me up!

11/21/2005 7:55:00 PM
unearth is the best band ever ever you dont know metal if you dont love them. but for serious, i thought the oncoming storm was very decent.

11/21/2005 8:11:44 PM
I think of all the bands that exploded in the last couple of years, i'm glad Unearth is one of them. Its better than say Atreyu or Avenged Sevenfold.. The Oncoming Storm wasn't bad, I liked it

11/21/2005 8:35:08 PM
Unearth is sick. Stings of conscience is awesome

11/21/2005 8:36:02 PM
I hope they don't use Dutkiewicz the Douche to record their next cd.

11/21/2005 8:42:01 PM
too lame press release + too lame band = no read ever

11/21/2005 8:53:34 PM
This CD was fcking sweet! Seeing them live was pretty good too. I expect this thing to e very very heavy!!!!

11/21/2005 9:10:15 PM
" So far what we have written is slower, lighter and happier than anything we have ever done" is what he should have said. more power metal for all!

11/21/2005 9:35:31 PM
it takes how many paragraphs before you even know what the press release is about? who hires these dumbfcks?

11/21/2005 9:45:10 PM
Good for Unearth. All you gays that talk about selling out and this not being metal can eat a dick. Your beloved european metal bands CD's end up on their top 100/50/25/10 charts. Does that make them sellouts?

11/21/2005 9:46:30 PM
And shit fellas, in the scheme of things 120,000 CD's isn't a whole heck of a lot; hopefully enough for them to make a living. fckshit, what did linking park sell, like 5 million?

11/21/2005 10:12:35 PM
It's not metal because it's not metal, fck record sales. Nile isn't hardcore, Fugazi isn't trip-hop, and Unearth just isn't fcking metal.

11/21/2005 10:29:07 PM
Based on what criteria?

11/21/2005 11:56:40 PM
i heard the new album, it goes like this: "chun, chugga ch-ch-chun weeeee, chugga chun ch ch chun duhnnn" it's so sweet.

11/21/2005 11:59:01 PM
Massachusetts is bullshit, unearth plays derivative boring music. I bet that 'opus' is going to be sweet. as balls. BALLS. BAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLZZ

11/22/2005 12:20:11 AM
they're not that great, a few classy songs here and there, but yeah, out of all the metal bands getting big, i'd rather listen to these guys than friggin atreyu or avenged sevenfold. they're all right, but nothing special.

11/22/2005 12:23:29 AM
Backstabbers Inc and Torche are sick

11/22/2005 7:51:40 AM

11/22/2005 7:57:07 AM
^^I guess super fcking highs is singing so it's allowed in one or two cases, fck YOU ANYWAYS!!

11/22/2005 8:01:06 AM
there's no singing in metal? shit, somebody better tell Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, and EVERY power metal band ever.

11/22/2005 8:09:58 AM
^^I said "HIGHS" fckHEAD!!!

11/22/2005 8:13:30 AM
ICED EARTH HAS LOWS, WHERE? Ripper is a straight up high pitch motherfcker so fck YOU TOO!!

11/22/2005 9:23:50 AM
Unearth is not metal. They are hardcore kids grown up who decided they want to play 'metal'. They use shitty two step beats, really gay breakdowns, and they have Trevor Phipps singing for them! Get a real singer. With Range. Then we'll talk.

11/22/2005 9:26:12 AM
'ipoopedinyourcloset' can you please show me and everyone else the chart where European metal bands have hit the top 20? or even 50? Honestly I'd love to see it. We are talking AMERICAN TOP 20 correct? Not Sweden's... or Finlands...

11/22/2005 9:40:52 AM
I went to college with Ken. Cool guy.

11/22/2005 10:59:48 AM
The 2 step beats are GAY as hell and they're fcking everywhere! listen to "stings" first album, hardcore as fck, no singing+ Adam D., bigger label, and singing,= NOT STICKING TO YOUR GUNS, SELLOUT!

11/22/2005 11:31:55 AM
*picks up the name Jay dropped*

11/22/2005 11:45:35 AM
i vote for lordofchaos to never open his mouth again until he has an intelligent and well structured thought to share with us.

11/22/2005 11:51:11 AM
oooh "LordofChaos" called me a gay and typed in bold. Metal started with singing pleasure, screaming came later. If you don't like band or style, fantastic, but at least post a viable argument.

11/22/2005 12:00:58 PM
sunny day real estate

11/22/2005 1:34:18 PM
Yeah, metal started out with singing, but Unearth isn't trying to sound like Judas Priest, they're trying to sound like At The Gates--and sucking at it, mind you.

11/22/2005 2:16:59 PM
All you pussies wipe from back to front! It's all about reaction so here's some bold type HOT ACTION, I VOTE THAT YOU PROBABLY ARE ON THE UNEARTH STREET TEAM AND FLUFF THE BAND FOR BACKSTAGE PASSES!!!

11/22/2005 2:28:14 PM
this should take them a weekend

11/22/2005 2:28:50 PM
please dont

11/22/2005 2:49:11 PM
When I said "highs" I meant like Mercyful Fate(King Diamond), Venom highs not screams! Second, I know that bands like Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin did sing but lucky for me I'm not ignorant enough to compare Unearth to those bands! Even Priest!!

11/22/2005 4:01:23 PM
So they're not metal but hardcore American kids playing metal? I guess by that argument you have to come from overseas and grow up only listening to metal to be metal. If they play metal, they're fcking metal. End of story.

11/22/2005 5:55:32 PM
strongarm's job is to defend marginally talented artists...and ?

11/22/2005 9:54:30 PM
Hey everything is gay: go to www.swedishcharts.com for starters. Nightwish peaked at #3, In Flames at #2 and so on. Look at last year at this time and fckin Nightwish was ahead of Britney Spears for christ sake!

11/23/2005 1:28:34 AM
umm..."lordofchaos", i think when you say "high" vocals you really mean falsetto vocals. but thats ok.

11/23/2005 1:28:47 AM
also. im right there with you about unearth but i can at least form cohesive sentences when im trying to share my opinion. it kinda like pissing in the wind when ya dont, ya know?

11/23/2005 4:21:59 AM
No I defend/support bands I enjoy listening to who happen to be quite talented and don't jump on the bandwagon of pretending to dislike bands by bashing said bands who are least deserving.

11/23/2005 8:31:42 AM
Trust me, the word FALSETTO will be used in the future, I thought I was going to have to send Lambgoat.com a year supply of maxi pads so nobody ruined their pants when I brought up this singing thing! It's all good!!

11/23/2005 1:21:12 PM
all you kids know you loved unearth when that shit 1st came out. you all know it was hot and still is.

11/23/2005 1:36:05 PM
one of the worse fcking bands around..these guys should eat shit and go kill themselves

11/23/2005 7:32:44 PM
TheFashionShow- i think you should listen to wat ur saying and do just that yourself, unearth rox! oh yeah, and just for the record, they r soooo metal.....

11/24/2005 2:31:45 AM
these guys should shit their ass...and then fck themselves dead with baseballs bands what have nails sticking out of them

11/24/2005 8:58:11 AM
^^ WHAT???
