Rage Against The Machine drummer hopeful for reunion

Friday, May 04, 2018 9:39 AM PT

Rage Against The Machine hasn't put out a new record since 2000 and has been defunct since 2011 (three of its members do currently play together in Prophets of Rage), but if a new interview with drummer Brad Wilk is any indication, a reunion certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Speaking with Dean Delray on a recent episode of the Let There Be Talk podcast (listen below), Wilk said, "Nothing would make me happier than to be able to fuck shit up right now with Rage Against the Machine. It's just really a matter of getting us all on the same page."

Explaining the lack of a reunion thus far, Wilk had this to say: "It's always been something different. It's always been somebody different. It's always something. For us, it's kind of like the magnet theory. One magnet is always being pushed out. You've just got to get all of the magnets to stick together for a minute, and that's always been our problem. I feel like a politician right now because I'm kind of skipping specifics, but that's just kind of the best way I can answer it."

Wilk was careful not to single out vocalist Zack de la Rocha for the apparent impasse, stating only that de la Rocha is "working on music constantly."

Wilk summarized the situation by suggesting that there were no huge obstacles to a reunion: "If [a reunion] will happen again or not, I have no idea, but I know at least the four of us are amicable and can talk to each other, and actually even go hang out on occasion, so I think more we just want to be friends first more than anything."

We'll hope for the best.

The chances of Trump winning a second term in office are higher than the chances of this band ever having a successful reunion.

I personally thought that One Day As A Lion was decent but a couple solo rap songs, a couple Run The Jewels guest spots, and one EP in 15 years doesn't exactly qualify as "working on music constantly".

"Down with Capitalism" screams the band who makes a living because of capitalism.

Stay broken up. Sucked then, will suck forever.

This is fake news because rage against the machine played at a Staples center outside during a RNC convention. I was there because about 1 hour and 58 minutes into the RNC I was getting a favor in the back bathroom.

Of course he's hopeful for a RATM reunion because the Profits of Rage shit they're taking on the road is dog shit and isn't as profitable as they hoped.
