Darkest Hour to record new album with Kurt Ballou

Tuesday, May 10, 2016 6:56 AM PT

Official press release:

Darkest Hour, who've been a unit for 20 years, completed a crowdfunding campaign for their ninth album. The Washington, D.C.-based band exceeded its initial goal of $50,000 by nearly $20,000. The band is pleased to announce the next step in the creation process for the album. Darkest Hour will enter GodCity Studio in Massachusetts to record the effort with producer Kurt Ballou (Converge) from September to October 2016.

"We really want to focus on the playing for this album. We want bring the energetic, raw, emotion we exude live to tape this time. We love to jam and riff all day and we feel Kurt's unique style of producing will compliment this perfectly. Also, it doesn't hurt that we completely respect and trust him as both a friend and musician, meaning we feel this monumental task of bringing another Darkest Hour album to life will rest well in his hands. So with our sights set on Boston for this September we will get back to the riff dojo and start woodshed'n these jams!," said guitarist Mike Schleibaum.

Knuckle draggers think the 70k goes into JUST recording the album? You silly inbreeders... this is Darkest Hour, man... Half of that will be on HELLA SICK PROMOTION with companies like MOUNTAIN DEW and RED BULL and probably another quarter of it on SUPER GNAR GNAR LIVE VIDEOS and MONTAGES OF THEM DRINKING fckING WHISKEY, BRO!

Oh and hopefully a lot of cocaine.

Everything after Eternal Return has been an overproduced, greasy, wet fart.

The fck? Why the hell would they need $70k to record an album with Kurt?

You could probably do a whole album with him, covering everything even lodging for under 20k. Maybe even 15k. Granted some of this money they raised is going to the cost of the stupid incentive shit and then they have to manufacture this actual turd of a record.

Please Kurt make us relevant again so we can keep playing music and put off getting real jobs even longer

Dragging this bullshit out even longer. Wasn't total disinterest on the second stage of the Mayhem Fest a big enough hint?

The Eternal Re'tard sounded like it was recorded in a locker room. That last album on Sumerian was all over the goddamn place but still really good.

As a some one whos a fan and didnt contribute to the crowd fund theres one and only thing you need to look at before you deem this band a "disinterest"

$70,000 shows a great deal of interest

Id rather have the older crowd support then a bunch of silly weird haired scene kids who only like the bands now a days cause of cool shirts and shitty "Hype"

Glad they are still around and clearly killing it.

Can we still donate? I'd be happy to give some money as I've only just heard about this. Willing to contribute

To the first comment, who the fck said it cost 70k to record with Kurt? The article just said they exceeded their goals on their crowd funding campaign. I'd say it's somewhere between 10k-20k (top metal producers are making somewhere around that) for a whole album and the rest goes to promotion, touring, merch and all that shit.

Basically a bunch of dishonest gays who couldn't get money from a label because they don't sell records, nor can they survive and make money touring, since they barely sell tickets, manage to milk what few fans they have left into financing their fantasy for another year or so. Band flip.

^^^ Yeah bro you're totally right!!! They've only had 5 albums debut in the billboard top 200. Noone sells albums if you show up on that chart. Their most recent album (which sucked) did so bad that they had their best first week sales yet.

Comment flip. Continuing beating your small pecker. Make sure to use lube before @n@l gaping yourself tonight.

What'd it sell total, jagass? Lots of bands are having bigger first weeks than ever. Just means more fans are buying it right away. Their total sales are down just like ticket sales.
