Mastodon: debut LP Remission to see deluxe reissue

Thursday, June 26, 2014 3:02 PM PT

Official press release:

Relapse Records is proud to present a deluxe reissue of Mastodon's seminal debut LP Remission, a record that would immediately establish them as one of the most important bands in the history of heavy music. Exploding onto the scene in 2002, Mastodon combined an unparalleled level of musicianship together with songwriting sophistication that simply did not exist amongst their peers. Over a decade after its release Remission remains one of the most important titles in Relapse's rich catalog, and it is with that appreciation that the label is proud to present a super-deluxe version of this classic record put together with the full cooperation of the band themselves.

The album has been fully remixed by original producer and engineer Matt Bayles and remastered by Ed Brooks at RFI. The CD cover art has been dramatically enhanced to showcase the iconic Remission horse in a beautiful custom 3D embossing with a UV gloss, special custom varnish and foil stamping. Additionally, album artist Paul Romano scoured his vaults to unearth 24+ pages of previously unreleased artwork originally created for the Remission album.

The album will see it's reissue on August 5th (N. America), August 4th (UK/World) and August 1st (Germany/Benelux/Finland) on CD and a deluxe 2xLP boxset. Physical pre-orders along with a new line of Remission merchandise are available HERE while digital pre-orders can be made HERE. A trailer showcasing the new and expanded packaging can be viewed HERE.

The CD version comes with a Remission sticker while the 2xLP box set is strictly limited to 2000 copies worldwide and includes a 11"x11" 24 page book featuring the gorgeous new artwork from Paul Romano along with an exclusive etching of the Remission horse. A special black/gold vinyl box set edition is available exclusively at Relapse.com and comes with a special, full color Remission turntable slipmat.

"This band is on it's last legs."

Yeah, about to have their biggest first week of sales ever, did a pre-album release tour that was bigger than the headliner on their last album. Definitely on their last legs.
Your parents have any kids who weren't born brain dead?

I totally dig this band... There singer is smart. Brann (the drummer) is not gay (nor anyone else) I consider him a bro and even emailed me in 2006 when I they were just starting out.

yet again, all i read is bitching. Mastadon is THE band. Your opinions are ridiculous as the comments i always read.

"Gay gays are gay cause queers are homos and he takes it like a gay gay."

I'm sure they can and will go far. But right now nothing more than a step above being local band.

Probably a decent idea considering this is a pretty underrated album. Seeing them live around the time this came out was awesome.

You all may not like these Mastodon guys: that's fine. The fact that they set up and play for you, have toy drives for needy kids, they give money to have shows happen, they own a venue, they give local bands $ to help them tour, they sign bands, what the hell are u keyboard warriors doing?

these guys deserve to be as big as or bigger than As I Lay Dying

I'm a Mastodon fan snd quite franklys I think this band fcking kicks ass its actually quite funny you really think BRANN cares about your comments or opinions of bashing them for whatever you guys are trying to with, grow-up a bit, and gain some respect for the music industry.

Brann once tried to fight every black guy in Charlotte.

Hopefully they dialed up the bass more, it's buried in the mix.

You wanna talk weakest part of Mastodon: lets talk bass.

anonymous

Not bad considering Relapse is still making $3,000 a month on the original Remission.

"I consider him a bro and even emailed me in 2006 when I they were just starting out." Your greatest achievement in life is being emailed by a drummer from a shitty metal band... before they were big

even the few seconds it took me to find the release date was too long, do it better you dick stems

6/27/2014 6:43:04 AM
these comments are incredible.

6/27/2014 10:49:43 AM
Wow at these comments. Also I feel like they shouldn't even be allowed to re issue this with the crap they spew out now. They are not even the same band. You hear that brann! You hurt my feelings.

even emailed me in 2006 when I they were just starting out.

Their second album came out in 2004, so they weren't "starting out" in 06.

Remission is they're best
THEIR best

they own a venue, .. they sign bands,

They do??
