Protest the Hero recruits Lamb of God drummer

Thursday, June 06, 2013 4:39 PM PT

Protest the Hero's drummer, Moe Carlson, has left the band to concentrate on furthering his education. In his absence, the band recruited Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler as the replacement drummer for their new album.

Against media odds, the band managed to sit on this news for months, holding out to work on the album and deal with the usual industry fine print. But while Moe was around for the early stages of the writing process, contributing to about four songs, he won't be heard anywhere on their new album. Instead, fans will hear Lamb of God's Chris Adler on the skins.

"He's a big name, but we have a pretty serious connection to Lamb of God," said Walker, mentioning that they share a manager. Carlson elaborates, saying he's known Adler for a long time.

Carlson has just under a year left until he graduates and seems to have adjusted well to academic life, no small feat since the band spent much of its senior high school years slugging through southern Ontario venues in the back of the grungy grey van they referred to as "Uncle Phil."

"The biggest thing is that everyone's still friends," says Carlson, who's already played with the band a few times since they internally decided on the mutual split months ago. "We'll still see each other all the time."

Meanwhile, Chris Adler had the following to say: "I was thrilled to get the call to join up and help out my friends in Protest, how could I turn down one of my favorite bands? I've done a bit of session work before with Testament and Ron Jarzombek but nothing this immersive. I lived and breathed this record for 8 weeks and even lived in Toronto for a month with the guys. The experience was intense to say the least. Some of the most demanding and intricate drum work of my career. I'm very proud to have been a part of the Protest family and can't wait to have you hear it."

Protest the Hero expects their new album to be out sometime in the fall.

As a drummer, I'm thinking how Chris will handle the stuff? It's way out of his leauge...

I like Chris' drumming on the first LOG but he won't be able to save this band fro from their usual awfulness

chris adler is the most over-rated drummer ever, there's no way he can handle this. they just wanted a big name to put on the album but there's no way he played the songs.

Not really sure how Adler will handle the technicality of it, but still pumped for the release. Always been a fan of them. Go ahead and hate.
