beforeyouleave announce hiatus following leaked messages containing racial slurs

Los Angeles, California screamo band beforeyouleave are going on hiatus after a private message between members Christian Ahn and Daniel You was shared by the Instagram account @theireyeswerewatchinggod_. In the exchange, both Christian and Daniel are seen repeatedly using the N-word (see screenshot below).
In response, the band wiped their social media presence, leaving only an Instagram story from Christian announcing the band's hiatus and issuing an apology. His full message, transcribed from Instagram, reads:
During these past few days, I've realized I Can't stay silent any longer. Some of you have seen screenshots of private messages between me and Daniel from when I was 16. In those messages, I said things I absolutely should not have. I take full responsibility for those words and for how I handled it after the fact. I was dishonest. I tried to avoid the truth, and that was cowardly. I've been carrying this for years, and I can't keep hiding. It's been eating me alive. I want to sincerely apologize - to my bandmates Johnny and Luca, who were dragged into something they didn't deserve, to our friends in other bands, to anyone whos booked us in the past and to anyone who has supported us or looked up to us. You deserved better from me. I've changed since then. I don't condone that language, and I've spent the last few years working to be a better person. But words have weight, and my past still matters. I know that just saying "I've changed" isn't enough - it's on me to show that through my actions from this point on. As a result beforeyouleave will be taking a break. I need time to reflect, hold myself accountable, and continue growing into someone who deserves to be part of this scene. I'm sorry. And I'm committed to doing the work to make this right - not just for myself, but for everyone I've hurt. - Christian
