Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne threaten legal action, Kanye pulls "Iron Man" sample from 'Vultures 1'

Sharon Osbourne Kanye West

Rapper Kanye West has drawn ire for using an uncleared sample of a Black Sabbath track in a song titled "Carnival," initially intended for his unreleased album with Ty Dolla $ign, Vultures 1, released yesterday. The track premiered earlier this week at an album release party and featured the sample.

Originally mistaking the sample for "War Pigs" (later corrected to say "IRON MAN"), Ozzy Osbourne cited West's alleged antisemitic behavior, publicly refusing permission, and distancing himself from the rapper.

Osbourne said yesterday via social media:

"@KANYEWEST ASKED PERMISSION TO SAMPLE A SECTION OF A 1983 LIVE PERFORMANCE OF "IRON MAN" FROM THE US FESTIVAL WITHOUT VOCALS & WAS REFUSED PERMISSION BECAUSE HE IS AN ANTISEMITE AND HAS CAUSED UNTOLD HEARTACHE TO MANY. HE WENT AHEAD AND USED THE SAMPLE ANYWAY AT HIS ALBUM LISTENING PARTY LAST NIGHT. I WANT NO ASSOCIATION WITH THIS MAN!"

Additionally, Sharon Osbourne mentioned the possibility of legal action being considered in response to the unauthorized usage of the sample.

The track includes the lyric "How am I antisemitic? / I just f*ed a Jewish bitch."

Sharon Osbourne told TMZ:

Kanye f*cked with the wrong Jew this time

Speaking to Billboard, she also said:

We get so many requests for these songs, and when we saw that request, we just said no way. We've been in touch with his team about the legal issue. And it's also an issue of having respect for another artist.

The simple thing is, we don't want to be associated with a hate. To spread hate the way he does, it shouldn't be allowed. All the excuses – he's bipolar or whatever – doesn't change that. It's like, fuck you, basically.

Ultimately, it appears that the Osbourne's threats were taken seriously, as fans noticed that upon release of the album on Friday, the sample was pulled.
