The Promise re-release "Die Or Fight"; play limited shows

The Promise

On New Year's Day, Syracuse-based straight edge hardcore band The Promise played a hometown show. This marked the first time hitting the stage since playing at Bane's farewell show in 2016 (Bane has since reformed) and at United Blood 2017. At the time, those shows were the band's first since they broke up back in 2005.

Now the band is set to perform again at Garden Amp in Garden Grove, CA in July 2023 for Indecision Records' 30th-anniversary celebration.

Along with that, the band is re-releasing a song called "Die Or Fight," which was originally featured on For You released by United Edge Records, a limited edition CD compilation dedicated to Jordan Wodehouse and Daniel Langlois. Both were members of the pre-Misery Signals band called Compromise that was active from 2000 until 2002 when a tragic accident claimed their lives while on tour. Compromise has recently reformed.

The song was written and recorded in 2003 and was the final track released by The Promise.

The song was recorded by Doug White at Watchmen Studios in Lockport, NY, who also worked on the band's 2002 debut EP, My True Love (Deathwish)

Speaking on "Die Or Fight", vocalist Anderson Bradshaw said:

"It's strange to reflect on something you wrote or said 20 years ago. This was always one of my favorite songs. With lyrics, I just want to say something real. Sometimes it's a stance on a social issue. Sometimes it's just – I think this fucking sucks. Who's with me? Nothing telegraphed. Which often is why I feel like my target/subject changes line by line.

"Die Or Fight" is no different and at its core is about toxicity. We watch so many people burn at both ends of clean and sober. Being the worst of both sides. The song touches on that, on addiction, and the lack of empathy for those going through it. On the misdirection of who's ultimately responsible. We all are. We all lose.

For me, every day is an active choice to survive. To be here and to make it to the next. Death is the guarantee. Die or fight."
