Machine Head album debuts in Top 100

Catharsis, the new album from Oakland, California metal veterans Machine Head, has debuted at No. 65 on the Billboard 200 chart. The record sold roughly 9,000 copies in its first week of release in the United States. The album also bowed at No. 17 on the Top Album Sales chart, No. 2 on the Hard Rock Albums chart, and No. 3 on the Independent Albums chart.

Machine Head's previous release, 2014's Bloodstone & Diamonds, sold 18,200 copies in its debut week, landing at No. 21 on the Billboard 200. Their 2011 album, Unto The Locust, debuted at No. 22 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of just over 17,000.

Going back further, The Blackening (2017) sold nearly 16,000 copies in its first week and bowed at No. 54 on the Billboard 200. Its predecessor, 2003's Through the Ashes of Empires, debuted at No. 88 on the Billboard and sold roughly 12,000 copies in its initial week of release.
