Avenged Sevenfold to skip Grammys in protest over rock, metal

Avenged Sevenfold will apparently skip this year's Grammy Awards as a protest against the way the organization treats the rock and metal genres. The band was nominated for their first Grammy this year, getting a nod in the "Best Rock Song" category for "The Stage." But when asked via Twitter how they felt about receiving a nomination, this was their response:
""Honored. Unfortunately, they have taken 'Best Rock Song' off the telecast this year so we won't be attending. Maybe next time."
Frontman M. Shadows has previously addressed his disappointment with the Grammys' treatment of metal:
"My whole thing was that metal… if you're getting the 'metal' award, they don't actually televise it, so no one sees it — it doesn't move the needle at all. And I think that's what the Grammys have to get that right."
