Set Your Goals singer starting label; seeks help

Set Your Goals vocalist Matt Wilson is starting a record label, dubbed Calaveras Records, and is seeking assistance from fans via Kickstarter. The label's first release will be a special 10th anniversary pressing of Set Your Goals' "Reset" demo on 10" vinyl. Wilson explains:
My name is Matt Wilson, and I sing for a band called Set Your Goals. A couple years ago, we regained the pressing rights to our demo recording from Eulogy Recordings, who had maintained exclusive pressing rights for 7 years, beginning when we signed with them back in 2005. I saw this as an opportunity to put money back into the band instead of another label's pockets. I've always wanted to start a record label, and this was the little "push" I needed to get me going. 2014 marks the 10 year anniversary of our demo's release and our band's career. As a vinyl enthusiast, I thought it only natural to make some really cool vinyl for the occasion, and try my best to get it out in time for Record Store Day 2014. In order to do this, there are some very strict deadlines I must meet (pressing vinyl takes a long time!), which is why this Kickstarter project is only about 2 weeks long. The only problem is, even by maxing out all of my credit cards, I still need help to pay for everything up front. Your pledges will not only help fund this release, but they will help the band out, as I am putting all proceeds from this first release back into Set Your Goals. This is a chance for you to be a part of our label's first release, support the band, and have a very special and unique piece of vinyl to show for it.

If you can't start a label with your own funds, chances are it won't be a success and the bands you're representing are pure shit. Also, releasing your own bands music is essentially saying "We're not relevant anymore and nobody will release our terrible music, so we have to"

Deprived middle class suburbia teens who listen to FOUNDATION are excited. What the fck ever happened to D.I.Y.!? It seems these days d.i.y. Means beg kids who pay for your album, buy your repetitive merch, and 15-25 bucks show to dig deeper into there food service industry paychecks to benefit bands that don't wanna spend thier royalty checks. Hardcore and pop punk are such bullshit. fck straight edge is a fckin joke too

Asking for money to start a record label? A new low has been reached

bet core shoals

I'd like to see a band like this public admit they suck and that their sucking extends far beyond music into every marketable aspect of their lives and because of that they are stuck in a limbo between being in an unsuccessful band that sucks, being cast out by their now-bled-dry parents, and having zero job skills. From there they can beg for food/rent money on kickstarter to maintain a vow of musical silence for the rest of their talentless days. I'd throw in a tenner.

I will support your label if you will agree to grow another foot taller and join the land of big people (read:adults). Why not ask your bandmates to help out? After all, you're releasing their material. Where's Mikey???

anonymous 2/9/2014 9:30:21 PM

Guys, I mean...its vinyl bro! Take your dick out of Mike Kennedy from The wonder years ass and join the rest of failed pop punk bands and jock madball like Chad Gilbert

DIY will never die. This site will never post about an awesome band who self-releases their own album though, because it's not sensational. Judging by the comments section, this site only exists for the masses to make fun of shitty pop-core bands (which is awesome). DIY still exists, you just won't find it on LG.

"set lower goals" - LOLLLLL

anonymous 2/10/2014 10:02:45 AM

DIY will never die. DIY is for kids sponsored by the bank of mom and dad. They don't care about money b/c they live in filthy squat houses with 10 other losers and eat out of garbage cans. Real adults understand that money makes the world go 'round. DIY is dead. F_uck the hipster entitled generation

Yeah start by maxing your credit cards. That's the path to success... Set Your Goals? Try Smoke Your Bowls.

embarassing on every level. If no one wants to re-press your 10 year old demo, dont swindle "fans" into doing it for you.
