Protest The Hero launches campaign to fund album

Tuesday, January 15, 2013 6:55 PM PT / 7,685 views

Last week came news that Canadian progressive metal band Protest The Hero was writing a new album. One thing the news didn't include was a mention of the record label releasing the effort. We now know why: Protest The Hero will utilize crowd funding to finance the album. Specifically, the band has launched an indiegogo campaign to collect donations. According to Protest The Hero, "We have completed all of our obligations to record labels. It's time to go it alone and take control of our careers. It's now or never!" A total fundraising goal of $125,000 has been set, roughly $44,000 of which has been raised thus far. Interestingly, special contribution "perks" include a private pizza party at a bandmember's house ($1,250), a cover song of your choice recorded by the band ($2,500), and the opportunity to contribute vocals to the new album ($5,000). UPDATE: Protest The Hero has now raised $140,724. Not bad for one day. UPDATE #2: Total take: $341,146... wow.

anonymous 1/15/2013 7:12:46 PM

WTF is this shit? Who does this band think they are? And 100 grand? And "perks"? God damn it, you guys aren't like running for president or something. I used to like this band but I have lost all respect for them after reading this. Please don't let this band steal your money. A "campaign" like this is the most selfish pretentious thing ever.

anonymous 1/15/2013 7:14:17 PM

125K to record an album??? are they hiring axl rose

anonymous 1/15/2013 7:15:05 PM

primadonna canuk fcks. dudes want to pocket 100k and fck off. not the least bit suprising from canadia.

anonymous 1/15/2013 7:18:13 PM

looks like these guys are going to record it at Dave Lettermen's studio in CBS? or perhapse the roof of the empire state building?

hahgay 1/15/2013 7:29:05 PM

We all thought Confide was crazy for asking for $30K......

anonymous 1/15/2013 7:36:05 PM

C'mon now...why don't they just sign with Victory?

anonymous 1/15/2013 7:50:41 PM

We won't accept money from a legitimate record label but please hand us 125 k without us having anything to show for it and hope your money goes to good use fck off

anonymous 1/15/2013 8:10:47 PM

Proof that A Textbook Tragedy was, and still is the only legit hardcore band to come out of Canada. The Abandoned Hearts Club runs a close second.

anonymous 1/15/2013 8:16:00 PM

These guys are some good, hard working, down to earth canucks. Haters, be thankful your parents haven't kicked you out of their bastuffts yet.

vsoccermomv 1/15/2013 8:33:43 PM

This is fcking ridiculous. If you want to run a respectable campaign to fund recording, organize a tour.

anonymous 1/15/2013 8:37:34 PM

These guys are some good, hard working, down to earth canucks. Haters, be thankful your parents haven't kicked you out of their bastuffts yet. fck you and your shitty Trivium clone band. If you're going to come on here and try to swindle money of your fanbase you should at least have the decency to talk to us directly instead coming on here as an anon and talking about your band in the 3rd person.

kill______yourself 1/15/2013 8:59:16 PM

Umm, ice cube and Chris tucker would protest the Debo fcking THIS.

anonymous 1/15/2013 9:04:33 PM

Haters, be thankful your parents haven't kicked you out of their bastuffts yet. Actually, my parents kicked me out of their bastufft so I'm accepting donations for the $100 k I need to find a new bastufft to live in. There's perks too, if you donate $5,000 you get to have pizza with me (and I'll even sign the pizza box), if you donate $10,000 you get to record a song with me and for $40,000 you and all your family and friends get free handjobs for life.

anonymous 1/15/2013 9:14:17 PM

If you actually watch the video on indiegogo it actually explains their situation very well. And as always, no one said you had do donate. And they aren't using all the money for the studio either, a few of rewards are basically just preorders for stuff. They have a budget at the bottom of the page as well.

ronaldthedog 1/15/2013 10:05:42 PM

i hope the kickstarter makes $124,999 and stops there the day the kickstarter campaign is set to expire. would be so fcking funny seeing this band cry

ronaldthedog 1/15/2013 10:08:26 PM

ah i just saw they have "flex" funding...they'll get the money even if they dont reach the goal. can someone fund an account on there to get the singer's throat torn out?

anonymous 1/15/2013 10:39:55 PM

i hope the kickstarter makes $124,999 and stops there the day the kickstarter campaign is set to expire. would be so fcking funny seeing this band cry. i'd love too see the website claim that money after them not raising their goal. bastards.

anonymous 1/15/2013 10:40:16 PM

if you can't raise the money from a job and tour you shouldn't be making music. also, a fcking pizza party with the band, are we in high school? that massive donation better be paying for drugs, pizza, booze, hookers, and whatever my fcking heart desires you jerks.

anonymous 1/15/2013 11:02:47 PM

Reading all these ignorant comments was really entertaining. 1. No one is forcing you to donate... 2. Record labels are the ones stealing the money not the band. 3. Albums are expensive to make, especially going down the DYI road, but they wont have to be slaves to the label anymore. 4. In less than one day, they have raised over $90,000. 5. Get your facts straight and information right before you judge. 6. You can all go fck yourselves you little pieces of shit.

anonymous 1/15/2013 11:03:11 PM

Everyone above this comment is a litte bitch.

anonymous 1/15/2013 11:27:21 PM

"who are they getting axel rose" hahahahaha

anonymous 1/15/2013 11:40:07 PM

band sucks. don't care. anyone who donates likes shitty music. fck you.

anonymous 1/15/2013 11:52:04 PM

3. Albums are expensive to make, especially going down the DYI road, but they wont have to be slaves to the label anymore. 4. In less than one day, they have raised over $90,000. "They". Cause I am definitely not a member of the band, I am just a friend of the band or a fan who is so concerned I have taken it upon myself to speak on behalf of these people. STOP THE DISHONESTY YOU DUMBASSES NO ONE'S BUYING IT!

ronaldthedog 1/16/2013 2:02:51 AM

what they cant use garage band and cd-r's or something?

anonymous 1/16/2013 4:46:56 AM

no one wants the fckin album you fools go work at walmart now!

anonymous 1/16/2013 4:50:19 AM

5. Get your facts straight and information right before you judge. lol the singers drummers cousin is raging. The facts are straight and it has been determined these dudes are pretentious gays.

LoydChristmas 1/16/2013 5:38:32 AM

3. Albums are expensive to make, especially going down the DYI road, but they wont have to be slaves to the label anymore. clueless fggt....Unless you insist on going to some big shot producer's studio to write and record for 6 months straight, you can make a good sounding album these days for 5 grand EASY.

anonymous 1/16/2013 6:03:51 AM

LOL @ this suck shit band's members coming on Lambgoat to cry. Give it up, the flash-in-the-pan trend you dildos have been riding is on its way out, get used to begging 'cuz you'll be doing a lot of it in a year or two. This is good practice for begging for cheeseburgers on Interstate off-ramps.

anonymous 1/16/2013 6:09:11 AM

LoydChristmas 25 minutes ago you can make a good sounding album these days for 5 grand EASY. Truer words were never spoken^ Their budget, by the way, is fckin rockstar. Holyshit!

genghisjohn 1/16/2013 6:18:05 AM

lol @ itemized insults. Total gay

anonymous 1/16/2013 6:24:53 AM

still not as bad as the warhound kickstarter stunt

anonymous 1/16/2013 6:45:00 AM

Jeeze, what's the big deal if their fans are willing to pay? I'd much rather give the band a $25 advance to put toward the album than pay that price to a label after the fact. Too much whining going on here..

anonymous 1/16/2013 6:48:09 AM

Anytime a band does something like this, all of these butthurt lambgoat gays fly off the handle. Donating 10 dollars gets you the album, so you're basically preordering the album, god forbid you actually pay to support music instead of pirating it all. Granted, I will say 50 bucks for a shirt and cd is just out-fcking-rageous, but that's why I'm just doing the 10 dollar donation.

anonymous 1/16/2013 7:27:26 AM

you guys are all misunderstanding. it's 125,000 CANADIAN dollars. see, it all makes sense

populationcontrol 1/16/2013 7:30:59 AM

Hey if their fans will give them that much cash then good for them.

anotherfaggotmovie 1/16/2013 9:10:21 AM

What's so hard to understand? It's a personal decision. if you are too poor to help your favorite band, it's your fcking problem. I gave them 25 dollars to have the CD (which would be 15$ in stores). I prefer to buy my CD directly from the band than having to buy it anywhere else. It's their album, right? So, when i buy the album i want my money to be theirs

anonymous 1/16/2013 9:16:27 AM

"you guys are all misunderstanding. it's 125,000 CANADIAN dollars. see, it all makes sense" ^ dumb fcking yank who still thinks the US dollar is where it was in the early 90s? Of course. As of Jan. 16, 2013. 1 Canadian dollar = 1.01 US dollars. Therefore, this Kickstarter = $126,250.00 USD How does that "almighty dollar" feel now? you 3rd world americ*nt.

anonymous 1/16/2013 9:22:42 AM

^ Apparently they don't have sarcasm in Canadia. You fcking humorless Frenchie.

bees 1/16/2013 9:28:16 AM

Why the fck are they giving away $23k worth of perks if they're trying to raise money for their album? They've already reached their limit and I hope people stop giving them more money.

anonymous 1/16/2013 9:30:53 AM

that's humoUrless Frenchie to you, you 'murican speaking twat.

anonymous 1/16/2013 9:43:42 AM

Haters gonna hate, band raised more money in less than 24 hours than any of you gays make in 10 years.

anonymous 1/16/2013 9:49:17 AM

^ Has clearly never held a job before. Some of us actually make real bank in real careers that'll last longer than gay faux-prog metal fads. Stop listening to this swill and you might make it out of your mom's guest room someday.

anonymous 1/16/2013 9:54:01 AM

I was going to donate some money to Cancer Research, but then I read this and I think these guys deserve it more... lol j/k get a job you spoilt gays. I would rather rip my ears off and stuff them up my jerk, then shit them out and eat them, than ever listen to this terrible band.

anonymous 1/16/2013 10:02:57 AM

^ Has clearly never held a job before. Some of us actually make real bank in real careers that'll last longer than gay faux-prog metal fads. Stop listening to this swill and you might make it out of your mom's guest room someday. Didn't realize taking dicks all day was such a lucrative career.

anonymous 1/16/2013 10:04:49 AM

I will donate. I will buy the album. I will love it. Stop crying you gays.

anonymous 1/16/2013 10:06:01 AM

No one on lambgoat makes "real bank" lulz.

anonymous 1/16/2013 10:08:18 AM

It's a personal decision. if you are too poor to help your favorite band, it's your fcking problem. Again, showing how much of a pretentious douche you guys are. "PTH is my favorite band so I am going to give this week's paycheck plus some money out of my savings to help them record an album" said no one ever.

anonymous 1/16/2013 10:17:29 AM

If $10 is "this week's paycheck plus some money out of my savings" then you've got some problems buddy.

anonymous 1/16/2013 10:21:59 AM

The issue isn't them begging, it's just an opportunity to rag on you pubescent losers for being into blatantly fcking wack kiddie bullshit like PTH. I guarantee you 95 percent of these donations are coming from people who still get an allowance.

anonymous 1/16/2013 10:37:41 AM

I'm not funding their record...but I'll download it for free!!

anonymous 1/16/2013 10:57:21 AM

"I was going to donate some money to Cancer Research, but then I read this and I think these guys deserve it more..." You realize that cancer is man made. So donating to that would make you look like an even bigger idiot. You want to throw money to a scientist who gets paid way to much for so called "research", when this fat country could just stop their terrible eating habits and stop smoking cig's, cancer would go away as well as diabetes.

anonymous 1/16/2013 11:31:04 AM

pathetic. get a fcking job.

anonymous 1/16/2013 12:23:05 PM

anonymous 1/16/2013 3:35:39 PM

Okay so basically these guys were trying to swindle everyone but they realized no one was going to "donate" so now they're pretending that they raised their target amount of money. More lies to cover lies. Do the world a favor and don't ever support this band again.

anonymous 1/16/2013 3:55:09 PM

How are they going to use the extra money they make? They already proposed a crazy budget that was way too much money aaaaaand now they have even more money to spend.

So many of you clowns have no idea how expensive it is to record and release a professional, top notch album. Idiots. The fact that they've eclipsed their target goes to show how popular these guys are.

anonymous 1/17/2013 12:24:48 AM

So many of you clowns have no idea how expensive it is to record and release a professional, top notch album. Idiots. The fact that they've eclipsed their target goes to show how popular these guys are. And the fact that I'm in the studio recording an album produced by Armin Van Buuren and featuring 2pac and Immortal Technique shows how popular I am. Stop lying! No one donated, and it doesn't take 100 grand to record an album and no one cares about ur washed up prog metalcore band.

anonymous 1/17/2013 12:32:25 AM

Canada is not stoked at all at these clowns making them look bad. Let it be known that 99% of Canadians are honest hard-working people who don't steal riffs or the money of their fanbase.

anonymous 1/17/2013 1:39:10 AM

They're having the dude who produced Michael Jackson's catalog, and mixed the last Rolling Stones do the rough mix and Kanye is mastering it in Nepal. Bands who over value their music are stoked. Classic Canuk Cashgrab

anonymous 1/17/2013 5:09:40 AM

Maybe if your band name wasn't so fcking gay I would donate. All these pretentious stupid fcking names where bands just throw three words together and try to pretend it means something deep. Yeah it means there's a dick deep in your ass you fcking gays.

anonymous 1/17/2013 10:47:01 AM

Scott Vogel donated $5,000 since Protest The Hero is keeping the spirit ofh hardcore alive. He also got his life partner Tony Brummel to donate as well. PTH will be playing at their wedding alongside The Bunny The Bear, A Hero A Fake and Ill Nino. I'm super bummed out that they didn't invite me. Oh well.

And I'm all, 'you've gotta be shittin' me!' But check this out man, judge should be like 'guilty!' Peace.
