Protest The Hero launches campaign to fund album

Last week came news that Canadian progressive metal band Protest The Hero was writing a new album. One thing the news didn't include was a mention of the record label releasing the effort. We now know why: Protest The Hero will utilize crowd funding to finance the album. Specifically, the band has launched an indiegogo campaign to collect donations. According to Protest The Hero, "We have completed all of our obligations to record labels. It's time to go it alone and take control of our careers. It's now or never!" A total fundraising goal of $125,000 has been set, roughly $44,000 of which has been raised thus far. Interestingly, special contribution "perks" include a private pizza party at a bandmember's house ($1,250), a cover song of your choice recorded by the band ($2,500), and the opportunity to contribute vocals to the new album ($5,000). UPDATE: Protest The Hero has now raised $140,724. Not bad for one day. UPDATE #2: Total take: $341,146... wow.
