Shai Hulud's new album to feature Chad Gilbert

Thursday, September 13, 2012 5:17 PM PT / 7,796 views
Official press release: Legendary hardcore/metal innovators, Shai Hulud, have finished their fourth album (second for Metal Blade Records). This album will serve as the follow up to 2008's critically acclaimed Misanthropy Pure. Matt Fox, Matt Fletcher and co. have completed recording the new album, alongside former Hulud vocalist and current New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert, the vocalist on Shai Hulud's debut full-length album "Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion." Gilbert's production resume includes work with H20, A Day To Remember, Terror, Trapped Under Ice, Set Your Goals, and more. Additionally, Shai Hulud has confirmed that the rumors are true; Chad Gilbert also recorded vocals for the entire album. A behind-the-scenes video from recording sessions with Matt Fox and Chad Gilbert is currently being completed and will be released in the coming months. In addition to performing on the album, Chad Gilbert will be joining Shai Hulud on stage for the Revelation Records 25th Anniversary show in New York City on October 13th. Additional shows are in the works and will be confirmed shortly. Shai Hulud's Matt Fox has offered the following update:
It's been a strange and unpredictable journey, friends… And the journey continues. Spare us a few moments, and we'll fill you in on the recent goings-on. Your friendly neighborhood Shai Hulud has indeed finished recording a new album which will be released on Metal Blade Records in 2013, keeping with the it-takes-these-guys-forever-to-release-an-album motif we've honed and perfected. Regarding the record, it's never easy to sing praises of your own work. That said, allow us to humbly suggest we're fairly confident you won't be disappointed - taking a break from listening to, scrutinizing and nitpicking something you've immersed yourself in does wonders for your perception of it. Having done just that, we can conclusively state we are very proud of the album - though not to satisfaction, of course, because as we all know, that is the death of desire. See what we did there? Our friend and former singer, Chad Gilbert, who produced the album also returned to sing. This is the first time in over a decade he provided recorded vocals to a Shai Hulud song, much less an entire album - his first since "Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion" in 1997, and distinctively the first time Shai Hulud features the same vocalist on two full lengths, mimicking our friends in Further Seems Forever who see their original singer, Chris Carrabba, return to sing on their forthcoming album "Penny Black" due out this year. Surely, a majority of you saw this coming. We knew our elusive responses of "Clark Griswold" when asked 'who sang on the album?' would foster this very speculation. Tacitly obvious, really. Hidden in plain sight even. If this is a total shocker to you, don't worry too much; while banking, and parking in metropolitan areas is sometimes difficult, with moderate help you should manage well enough. In theory. Just to be clear, Chad has not rejoined Shai Hulud, and it's highly unlikely there will ever be a full tour with with him fronting the band. You can, however, catch us play together on September 16th at Reel & Restless Fest in Miami, October 13th with Chain Of Strength (!), Bold, Battery, and Shook Ones at one of the Revelation Records 25th Anniversary shows in NYC, and another show the following day, October 14th, in a city yet to be determined. These shows will be a blast. We hope to see as many of you as possible so we can celebrate together music, creative unions, and enduring friendships. You guessed it, the fact that Chad sang on the new album does in fact reveal we do not currently have a fixed, permanent singer. Another shocker. Over the past few years we've been fortunate enough to have friends who have loaned us their voices for tours and recordings. We're grateful to everyone who dedicated any amount of their time and effort to help keep Shai Hulud moving forward. Without them, their friendship, their passion for the music, we would have remained stagnant. Because of them we progressed. For that we owe all of them a serious debt of gratitude words cannot express. See what we did there? And the journey continues, moving forward as we always have with the help and support of our friends, and those we have connected with musically. Within a day or so we will posting details on what we always look for in the singer of a Hardcore band. We hope to be hearing you. Please check in with us online within the next couple of days for details.

fuckyourxs 9/13/2012 7:08:15 PM

ineedsalt 9/13/2012 7:34:23 PM

damn, thats just too much reading.

XBaconXEdgeX 9/13/2012 7:59:56 PM

"what happened to the SH fanboy that was singing for them before?" I'm assuming you're talking about Mike Moynihan. He's hardly a "fanboy". But to answer your question, he left to be a guitarist for the band Hollow Earth. This is rad news, if you ask me. I think this is the best possible outcome. Only thing that could make it better would be if Chad quit NFG and actually rejoined SH.

This band produces 1 million fcking press releases for every note of music. No one cares, stop this awful shit, congratulations on having someone in a jorts wearing boy band make up of 40 years olds be your most famous face. Eat glass.

Odd to make a new album with Chad doing vocals but not fully joining the band. Bummer, I was hoping for Mike to stay but looks like he's needed elsewhere.

anonymous 9/13/2012 11:52:18 PM

anonymous 9/14/2012 12:09:47 AM

All knob polishers talking shit on Mike can polish mine while they're at it. Mike is an awesome dude and a work horse. Hope Chad doesn't suck on this. All the vocals he does on NFG stuff are really bad

Shai Hulud, have finished their fourth album (second for Metal Blade Records Stopped reading there you stupid fcking gays

anonymous 9/14/2012 10:13:31 AM

Such a bummer. Sucks to see such a cool band grasping at straws and using gimmicks to get people to care again. I'm sure the record will be cool, but having Chad sing on it is super transparent.

anonymous 9/14/2012 10:14:44 AM

How was the last guy a phony? I'm curious like a cat

anonymous 9/14/2012 1:02:25 PM

GEERT WAS THE fckING BEST VOCALIST THEY EVER HAD. END OF STORY.

"cant wait for the 2023 album featuring damien moyal" Haha! I think the date is far too early though.

Words cannot express my approval.

anonymous 9/14/2012 6:41:45 PM

i'm into these d00fs no matter what they do.

anonymous 9/14/2012 7:24:36 PM

If you think Shai Hulud are trying to "cash in" by getting a certain vocalist then you're a fcking retard.

anonymous 9/14/2012 7:53:57 PM

You might be a redneck if you think "loading the dishwasher" means getting your wife drunk.

EveryTimeHeDies 9/14/2012 11:34:50 PM

i'm seriously excited. all the pretentiousness aside, i really enjoy shai hulud a lot.

big_metal_al 9/15/2012 7:04:34 AM
