If there's one thing we need to unite on as Americans it should be not giving the government any more money..
The 2019 federal budget is $5 trillion dollars.. you know this amount of money does not exist right? I mean, mathematically the number exists, but there is no such thing as 5 trillion dollars..
They may as well just say the budget is infinity, we need an infinite amount of money to run the country..,and guess what!?!?! ITS NOT ENOUGH. WE NEED MORE

that's the fcking problem, not a fcking wage gap

There's a huge difference between profit and net income. Amazon operates at a loss..
The real criminals are places like Harvard university.. their endowment is 40 billion. That's money just given to them. They pay zero in taxes, and perpetuate the student loan crisis
wee_bastid 6/19/2019 5:01:06 PM
amazon operates at a loss? news to me.
portslob 6/19/2019 5:03:41 PM
Yes debt, amortization, depreciation are not included in operating income .
Amazon has huge cash flow but their net income is still in the negative. It's not uncommon. They had to borrow a lot to get it where it is today
amber 6/19/2019 5:12:09 PM
You're using Jeff Bezos as an example when Amazon didn't pay any federal income tax
portslob 6/19/2019 5:14:27 PM
Plus they're publicly traded, if they need more cash they can go to the market with a common share offering..their share price closed today at 1,908.. they release 1 million shares tomorrow, by Friday they have another 1.9 billion..
But now you have new share holders that purchased these shares and expect them to be invested back into the company's operations..
1.9 billion would warrant huge spending.. .ie. a new headquarters?? You heard about this in the news?
amber 6/19/2019 5:14:29 PM
Also you're going to have to prove Amazon is operating at a loss. Pretty sure that is aggressively wrong
portslob 6/19/2019 5:17:04 PM
Bezos pays federal taxes on his salary, he's talking about amazon, I'm trying to explain that if a company's net income is negative they don't have to pay federal taxes..
Amazon net profit and Jeff Bezos earnings are two different things
wee_bastid 6/19/2019 5:23:50 PM
Thanks to the new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), Amazon's federal tax responsibility is 21% (down from 35% in previous years). But with the help of tax breaks, according to corporate filings, Amazon won't be paying a dime to Uncle Sam despite posting more than $11.2 billion in profits in 2018.

How is that possible?

"It's hard to know exactly what they're doing," said Steve Wamhoff, ITEP's Director of Federal Tax Policy. "In their public documents they don't lay out their tax strategy. So it's unclear exactly which breaks [the company is taking advantage of]. They vaguely say tax credits. One could think of many different ways a corporation could do this, like the depreciation breaks which were expanded under TCJA."

but boy oh boy, you bet your ass slorb knows
suicidebears 6/19/2019 5:27:51 PM
slob I would never do that because speculation for the sole purpose of turning a profit does nothing for the economy and is a bullshit way to get rich

it's how a person who is already wealthy becomes even more wealthy, it's one of the absolute worst things about capitalism so I'm guessing you love it

It's the same thing as student debt forgiveness..you think the debt vaporizes into thin air? No, it will be paid off with taxes.. now some guy who may have never went to college is footing the bill for some douchebag that decided to go to a school that cost 80 grand a year and majored in scuba diving.

lol
