5 Albums to Introduce You to Noisecore
Welcome to an introduction of your new favorite extreme genre, noisecore.
As its title aptly describes, noisecore is typically the hybrid child of extreme music’s harsh noise and grindcore. Its origin is often associated with the surge in popularity of noise music starting in the late eighties, though like noise music itself, it can not be directly traced to any singular originator. Sonically, its biggest distinction from noise itself is the implementation of drums (digital or analog) in a fashion most similar to genre off-shoots of hardcore punk.
Let’s get you acquainted with five releases from the last decade.
Methlab Explosion - Noisecore Terrorist
Arguably the perfect introduction to the genre, Methlab Explosion's Noisecore Terrorist is filled with hyperblasts of completely overblown drums that ping as though they were mic’d off a metal trash can. The tracks are exceptionally short, no-filler, devastating explosions of noise with exceptional high screams at the top of the mix.
Sete Star Sept - Beast World
It’s impossible to talk about anything noise related without mentioning Japan, and Sete Star Sept is a perfect example of why. With a little more audible, traditional instrumentality than some other noisecore releases, Beast World is a parade of monstrous grind that yanks listeners to and fro, pummeling them with unpredictable drumming and bass guitar fueled sonic assault.
Sissy Spacek - Disfathom
Along with Sete Star Sept’s Beast World, Sissy Spacek’s Disfathom is debatably the most conventionally approachable or listenable on this list, though other releases of theirs can be more challenging. Beast World is an onslaught. A blend of bass guitar and drum combo violence with electronics sprinkled in for added harshness sake.
Farting Corpse / Waves Crashing Piano Chords - 7" Split
With a Korgg Kaoss Pad substituted for guitar, effect laden vocals, and classic Midwest grind drumming, Farting Corpse’s side of their split with Waves Crashing Piano Chords is a superb and quick palette wetter for noisecore. Check out Waves Crashing Piano Chords’ side too if you’re interested in pushing things with some “juggalo power electronics”.
Scab Addict - Eye Popping Noisecore
Becoming an instant classic upon its release, Scab Addict's Eye Popping Noisecore is overblown, jerky, and distorted to no end; true to its name. Deliciously hideous guitar playing, barking vocals, and over the top, messy drumming stand as an ode to the noisecore of yesteryears.
