Pink Floyd to release new album 'The Endless River' in October

This obviously has nothing to do with metal, but whatever, it's my blog.

Anybody who knows me is well aware of the fact that I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan. I've read pretty much every book available about them, have seen Roger Waters live many times, and can beat anybody when it comes to Floyd trivia.

Anyway, if you had asked me if there would ever be another Pink Floyd album, I'd have said "never." I'd have said this even before keyboardist Richard Wright passed away in 2008. Roger Waters is no longer part of the band, if you want to call it that, and current leader David Gilmour has already stated that he has no interest whatsoever in continuing Pink Floyd. So when Gilmour's wife (and sometimes Floyd lyricist) Polly Samson dropped the following Twitter bombshell yesterday, I was admittedly shocked.

According to vocalist Durga McBroom-Hudson, who has toured with the band, sessions for the album originally began over twenty years ago. McBroom-Hudson is quoted at follows: "The recording did start during 'The Division Bell' sessions (and yes, it was the side project originally titled 'The Big Spliff' that Nick Mason spoke about). Which is why there are Richard Wright tracks on it. But David and Nick have gone in and done a lot more since then. It was originally to be a completely instrumental recording, but I came in last December and sang on a few tracks. David then expanded on my backing vocals and has done a lead on at least one of them."

There is no word of Roger Waters participating, and I don't expect that he will. Waters does not take a passive role when it comes to music, and he'd be leading this endeavor if involved. Unfortunately, while they have been somewhat friendly for the past few years, Gilmour and Waters are both too stubborn to collaborate on anything significant. Again, if Waters can't drive, he won't get in the car.

I'm a huge Roger Waters fan, even moreso than Gilmour, so I'd love to have him on board. Fantasies aside, however, I'll take any "Pink Floyd" album over no album at all.
