new earnings and attendance numbers: the good, the bad, and the ugly

6/18/2014 5:31:24 PM PT   comments [22]

A huge set of concert earnings and attendance data has been made available via Boxscore. Among the artists represented are Black Sabbath, Dream Theater, Megadeth, Black Label Society, Glassjaw, Carcass, Meshuggah, Iced Earth, Asking Alexandria, Between The Buried And Me, Failure, Clutch, Amon Amarth, Memphis May Fire, We Came As Romans, and Protest The Hero.

While many artists had some great numbers (e.g. The Dream Theater, Ghost, Black Label Society, New Found Glory, Asking Alexandria, etc.), a handful of others had difficulty filling venues in select cities (e.g. Lacuna Coil, Between The Buried And Me, Memphis May Fire, Protest The Hero, Sevendust, Soulfly, etc.). Shows in Reno, NV and Boise, ID were particularly bad, for whatever reason. Protest The Hero only had 104 people attend their Reno show in a venue that fits 715. Ouch. Meanwhile, Soulfly drew 239 when they had room for 1,185. Damn.

I guess the Knitting Factory in Reno, NV doesn't like metal.
Jamie_Lee_Coitus   posted 6/18/2014 6:07:57 PM
The cost of some of these is outrageous. There is not way I would have ever paid $30-$60 to see Taking Back Sunday and The Used.

lol 292/1,185 that's just sad
anonymous   posted 6/18/2014 6:32:20 PM
not true they love Attila lol
anonymous   posted 6/18/2014 7:43:02 PM
Reno is a shifty market. But a much needed stop going east or west.
mummified_circuitry   posted 6/18/2014 7:58:51 PM
who the fck would pay almost $60 for sevendust??? lol
anonymous   posted 6/18/2014 8:32:51 PM
amon Amarth on Long Island was actually a decent draw being that there was a really bad snowstorm that night and they played New York City two nights before
anonymous   posted 6/18/2014 9:17:37 PM
I guess no one likes Soulfly lol
anonymous   posted 6/18/2014 10:40:14 PM
Hahaha watch label owners pay lambgoat to not put their shittiest acts on blast now. Phat. Guarantee-Flip.

ghost sold out best buy theater? with $25-27 a ticket? wtf?
anonymous   posted 6/18/2014 11:49:03 PM
A 44 capacity venue??
RickRock   posted 6/19/2014 6:53:23 AM
I'm impressed that In This Moment was able to sell out a show considering they are fcking awful.
anonymous   posted 6/19/2014 6:57:51 AM
New Brookland Tavern holds atleast 200, not 44. Doubting the legitimacy of these postings.
webmaster   posted 6/19/2014 7:16:59 AM
There's no reason to question their legitimacy. It was probably just a typo on Boxscore's end. The venue holds around 300, so I'd imagine that it should say something like 44 / 300

lot of results from my town, Spokane. interesting to see!
anonymous   posted 6/19/2014 10:14:36 AM
Sworn Enemy needs to hang it up already. You play a SMALL venue in your own hometown and can't even sell it out with 5 other acts supporting.... hahahahahahahah
anonymous   posted 6/19/2014 10:30:13 AM
Funny that Sevendust can draw 1200 people and make ~$15k when the tickets are $10-$15, but more than quadruple the ticket price and they draw under 300 people everytime and make $10k less per show. The person for/in the band that deiced to bloat the ticket price is very, very bad at math and common sense.
anonymous   posted 6/19/2014 10:33:35 AM
Also wish that more figures from the Failure tour were available. Chicago is almost a hometown show for them. At the show a week ago, here in Houston, there were MAYBE 400 people.
anonymous   posted 6/19/2014 10:53:07 AM
BTBAM: 292/1,185. That's UNDER 25%!
That makes me happy!
anonymous   posted 6/19/2014 11:47:30 AM
looks like that place in reno needs to close, they can't get over half the capacity even on good tours
chicken_gang_bang   posted 6/19/2014 4:08:10 PM
I'm glad to see Reno doesn't support dog shit. Knitting Factory sucks. I've been there twice, both times for Hank Williams 3
anonymous   posted 6/19/2014 9:24:30 PM
they bloat the price cause the capacity is half.. duh (bad at math)
