Arguably the current kings of mosh, Connecticut's Hatebreed formed in 1995 with a mission to create the heaviest music possible. Headed by Jamey Jasta (vocals), formerly of Jasta 14, the band released an initial CDEP on Smorgasbord Records, entitled 'Under the Knife.' The band quickly gained popularity for its no-frills and aggressive brand of metallic hardcore, coupled with their "no-nonsense" and "no-mercy" attitude. Quickly climbing up the rungs of the hardcore ladder, the band signed to Victory Records, and released its debut full-length in late-1997, 'Satisfaction is the Death of Desire.' Constant touring, infamous shows, and a growing reputation of brutality continued to expand the band's fan base, leading Hatebreed to share the stage with mainstream bands such as Soulfly, Slipknot, and Black Sabbath, while participating in national tours and festivals, including Warped Tour and Ozzfest. The band has also contributed to numerous compilations, and shared split seven-inches with Integrity and Neglect. Although Hatebreed has gone through a number of personnel changes and switched labels, the band continues to forge ahead, recently releasing their second full-length, appropriately entitled "Perseverance," on Universal/Stillborn. Fans of straightforward, metallic moshcore coupled with throaty vocals will be easily satisfied here. read less
