Formed in July 1997, Boston's Anodyne formed among friends with the purpose of creating challenging, improvisational noise, drawing influences from Black Flag to Hüsker Dü. At the time, the idea was to not take things so seriously. But with the addition of several other musicians/friends, the band and its music began to take shape, develop structure, and eventually turn into a demo. Following the recording, the band would tour the Northeast with other acts, such as Drowningman, ISIS, Cable, and Ire. The band would record several more tracks in early-1998, which would appear on several compilations. After slight line-up change, Anodyne would hit the studio to record its "Quiet Wars" CDEP for Escape Artist Records (Playing Enemy, ISIS). Since then, the band has experienced more personnel changes, but has been on several tours, while releasing two seven-inches ("Red Was Her Favorite Color" on Happy Couples Never Last Records, and "Berkowitz" on Alone Records). Additionally, the band's long awaited, forth-coming full-length, "The Outer Dark," is expected to be released soon by Escape Artist. Exhibiting elements of noise, hardcore, and rock, fans of heavy, noisy hardcore with tempo changes and gruff vocals should check out Anodyne. Members of Anodyne can also be found in Relapse Records artist, 27. read less
