Formed in 1997, Virginia's Pig Destroyer has been turning the heads of metal and grindcore listeners since its inception. With the original line-up of J.R. Hayes (vocals), guitarist Scott Hull, and drummer John Evans began practicing and writing new material for an early self-titled demo, which was received very well. The band would then share a highly successful split 7" with Orchid, and embark on an East coast tour in 1998 with the likes of Drop Dead, Converge, and ISIS. 1998 would mark the band's debut full-length, "Explosion in Ward 6," on Reservoir Records. The release would propel the Pig Destroyer even further among the grindcore genre, as it established itself as one of the premier acts, while playing along with high-profile bands Discordance Axis, the Dillinger Escape Plan, Disassociate, and Capitalist Casualties. The band would then sign with Relapse Records, releasing a split 7" with ISIS. Following the 7", "38 Counts of Battery" would collect Pig Destroyer's previous CD and seven-inch efforts to complete an early discography. In 2001, shortly after releasing a split with Gnob on Robodog Records, the band would release its debut Relapse full-length, "Prowler in the Yard." Fans of Discordance Axis, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, or any grindcore in general must listen to this band. read less
