Within a year after its inception, the band recorded, self-released, and self-distributed its debut record, "Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat," which attracted the attention of a number of record labels. Slipknot would eventually sign with Roadrunner Records, via producer Ross Robinson's imprint label, IAM Recordings. The band would record its self-titled Roadrunner full-length, which would be released in 1999. With its wild live shows and aggressive brand of nü-metal, Slipknot would land a slot in 1999's Ozzfest. The masked, eight-man unit has also appeared on the Tattoo the Earth tour, as well as in numerous music publications, and gaining national noteriety along the way. In 2001, the band would release its follow-up full-length, "Iowa," on Roadrunner. Listeners who are interested in nü-metal should check out one of the forerunners of the genre here.
