In 2003, Comeback Kid (aka CBK) released Turn It Around and immediately started turning heads. Beating the sophomore slump, their popularity soared in 2005 with the release of Wake the Dead. With the addition of more melody, Wake the Dead really seemed to strike a chord with fans of hardcore worldwide, myself included. 2007 saw the release of Wake the Dead's disappointing follow-up Broadcasting and the debut of (until then) guitarist Andrew Neufeld on vocals. Now, on their fourth studio full-length, Comeback Kid tries to be their own "comeback kids" with Symptoms + Cures. After the departure of Scott Wade on Vocals, CBK lost a lot of their personality. His "loud talking" approach really worked with their style. Neufeld at times aped this on Broadcasting, but has thrown it completely out the window on Symptoms, opting for a full-on scream and (similar to Broadcasting) the occasional "semi-clean" vocal that sounds like a cross between Linkin Park and Propagandhi. The riffs are pretty powerful and aside from a couple of stinkers at the end of the album, very intense and moving. Musically, it's the Comeback Kid we've all come to know and expect, with the title track REALLY shining through. It's just very hard for me to get past the vocals, not just how they sound, but the structure of the choruses. I would find it awkward to sing along to a lot of these songs live, some are just too quick and others sound forced, seemingly shoe-horned in for the pop punk kids. I know this reads a little harsh, but I DO like the album, despite its flaws. The intensity is palpable, and although essentially a lateral move from Broadcasting, it's still better than most of the hardcore I hear offered these days. Bottom Line: The fun of a band like CBK is singing along, and the way the gang vocals and choruses of Symptoms + Cures are laid out, it just isn't as call and response worthy. This album isn't lousy by any means, it's just not what I want out of a band that made me turn my head five years ago.

You f*cking shithead. You don't know the first thing about shoe-horning for the pop punk kids; we put a lot of time and effort into this CD, and it's one of the catchiest releases of the year. We better not catch you around at any shows, because if my crew sees you, you'll wish you never got out of bed that day. Oh, and to everyone who actually CARES about this record, listen up! Thanks to everybody who bought it already but for those who have not been able to find it, try TARGET, yes TARGET is

idaho_ 9/10/2010 3:26:18 PM

Broadcasting was certainly not disappointing, ya ding bat.

Christmas_ 9/10/2010 4:29:58 PM

i thought broadcasting was disappointing too AT FIRST, but after i let it grow on me i realized that cd is f*cking phenominal. with symptoms i went into it knowing what to expect now from comeback kid and its still just as energy filled and you know, awesome. if you cant like or understand what theyre doing here then well, f*ck yourself.

Vincent_ 9/10/2010 4:57:13 PM

I hate your cd review so f*cking bad. You should start to REALLY listen to the records you rate. They're probably the only hardcore band that has REALLY evolved among all those non-original-never-ending-breakdown band.

yasaf_ 9/10/2010 5:18:37 PM

You REALLY need to put a sock in it, Vincent.

derek_ 9/10/2010 5:31:24 PM

"We better not catch you around at any shows, because if my crew sees you, you'll wish you never got out of bed that day." wow, LOL worthy. you gotta realize that not everyone gonna like what you guys are laying down. Threatening some one cause they didn't give you a 10/10 review is just stupid.

derek_ 9/10/2010 5:55:21 PM

Ok after looking at a couple other reviews I get the joke. even funier

elliot_ 9/10/2010 7:36:32 PM

So the album isn't that great because you don't think you'd be able to comfortably sing along to it live? Are you joking?

Cumback Kid_ 9/11/2010 3:24:59 AM

Why didn't someone sub-edit this review? There are way too many mistakes in it for a 'professional' music site like Lambgoat. Oh, wait.

arty_mcfarty_ 9/11/2010 8:54:47 AM

please never write a review again.....if you think it sucks why did you give it a 6?

anonymous 9/11/2010 9:15:10 AM

is this reviewer the same jeremy smith that was in Dead Hearts?

needhope_ 9/11/2010 12:04:46 PM

I really liked all of their albums...Broadcasting was my favorite.

HBDad_ 9/11/2010 1:09:34 PM

Great f*cking album! I think they get better with each release!

TM_ 9/12/2010 6:03:06 PM

I guarantee that's not Andrew. The review is bogus, Broadcasting was one of CBK's best ESPECIALLY when it comes to live performances. I agree with the poster below that says the releases just keep getting better. This band is evolving and in no way a disappointment.

Winston_ 9/13/2010 3:15:51 AM

Comeback Kid (aka c-mback Kid)

xmusicislifex_ 9/13/2010 8:47:30 AM

awesome album, awesome band, bad review.

Scott Vogel_ 9/13/2010 1:12:08 PM

shit even i've copied and pasted the "you f*cking shithead" joke a few times. you morons fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

caseyfuckingjones_ 9/13/2010 2:37:53 PM

not sure why everyone's getting their panties in a twist...the reviewer stated that he does like that album and giving it a 6 isn't really so harsh.

Godfatherofsoul_ 9/15/2010 12:58:17 PM

I like to get my panties in a twist for big black blokes

Utah69_ 9/15/2010 3:05:59 PM

derek, youre a goddamn idiot. sincerely, i wish you unhappiness. Is this jeremy smith seriously reviewing on here? he makes nick look like a poet...shockingly bad review and posts.

Mr Man_ 9/16/2010 4:27:37 PM

I guess cbks fans are Few and Far Between these days

thealcoholic_ 9/18/2010 5:40:43 AM

this is a terrible review regardless of what this album sounds like. i hope jeremy is paying someone to be on this page rather than the other way around. in 2003... get the f*ck over it. andrew rips, youth crew core was done before this band even started, hence "revival". whatever. suck bags of dcks. aka SBoD.
